New Server

We've just moved to a new server that hopefully will be somewhat more reliable than before - things appear to have gone OK, but I'm afraid a few posts may have been lost that were posted close to the server move. If you spot anything odd let me know!

I found one issue:

the URL of the community posts seems to have changed, with an extra /blitzbasic/ in the path. No biggie, except the link to your own postings in the user profile does not include that portion, and hence fails.

(Is there a reason for the /blitzbasic/ folder level ? It seems a tad archaic, especially since blitzbasic itself has been discontinued)

Eeeew.... Just realized something really bad: the changed URL (the extra /blitzbasic/ ) means that one can no longer use google to search the blitzbasic forums... All its links now point to non-working folders.

Given how massive a feature this is (google.com searching for keywords with site:blitzmax to restrict it to this domain), I would *really* want to ask you to restore the original URL schema. It's pretty much the only way to search the code archives, and for regular searches it's a ton faster than the forums built-in search as well.

(You may want to look into this sooner rather than later, before google drops the 11,000 + links to the current blitzbasic forums that it has in its index)

The Mac downloads are not working, I get page cannot be found errors.

By the way, how about posting a warning message -before- you switch or maintain your servers?

They did post a warning in General Discussion but I think it was deleted by the server move.

In addition to the first posts relating to the new site structure:
All Codearcvhive links in the forum leads to wrong (non existing) pages. I hope there is some way you could fix this without editing each codearchiv link.

It seems like if you absolutely need to get a download from the product update section, you can get the address from the link, and change it from www.blitzbasic.com/file/... to www.blitzbasic.com/blitzbasic/file/... and it'll work.

Take note that people are still posting on the old site.

Maybe the old site should be shut down with a message redirecting to this one. At least for a couple of days until the new site propagates to all the servers. I posted several messages on the old one before I saw puki's message redirecting to this one.
Fortunately, I didn't post anything earth shattering, so I shouldn't need to retype them here :)

I just tried to put some code in the Code Archives, and kept getting some Java/PHP error... Is that because of the new server?

Don't seem to be able to add comments in code archive either.

None of the links from Google or indeed the links inside BB to other posts work either.

Is that /en/ URL bit really needed considering it's killed off all links?

If it's on linux/unix, it's technically possible to make a symlink from /Community to /en/Community and have both operational...

Might want to look into that.

I just noticed that SyncMods isn't working anymore either. Browsing directly to www.blitzbasic.com/modserver126 gives the following message:

The BlitzMax 1.26 Mac/PPC download is -still- broken and fails to decompress.

On a positive note: It's nice and fast!

I guess this might delay V1.28, God I hope they make it soon!!!

Yes, including syncmods. 126 on PPC should be fixed soon hopefully.

All demo downloads do NOT work. We had querys in the german portal because of this, as people tried to get the Demos and failed.

Works perfekt here blade, we must fix the /en/ in the download links. ;)

I repeat: i downloaded from HERE, not the german portal, and get the file not found error.

And i can download HERE every demo without problems.

Ok, i see. If you come via http://www.blitzbasic.com you can not download the demos, you must be in the /en/ pfad to get them.

Is /en/ supposed to be working? Because I changed my bookmarks and now all the /en/ pages have stopped working again.

All links are back to: "www.blitzbasic.com/Community", etc.

Woo - this new server is zippy! Can we expect it to stay this way, or will it start taking weekends off, like the last one? :P
