Okay, PGR3 has been out for nearly 2 years, but it stil looks greta eye candy - and a good racer to boot.

Can the other next gens compete (GT4 used to be my racer of choice ... racer of choice now - PGR2 !, yep on my last gen xbox.).
PGR4 is out and I have it, it's awesome, graphics are better too.
If you're to beleive gametrailers.com, then the games that are both xbox 360 and PS3 look better on 360.
Mass effect just came out, that looks so much better than anything else I've seen.
im starting to see that the x360 is better too.
We bought Assassins creed for PS3 and is FPS drops out wayyy before the x360s does, which we played yesterday.
x360 wins....

That's odd. All the reviews I read said that the XBox 360 version had slightly better lighting and the PS3 had a better framerate.
I read a lot about poor FPS, freezes and even white screen of death with this game on PS3. Supposedly theres a fix for the fps issue.
How To Stop Assassins Creed From Freezing And The Frame Rate Issues 2 days ago
There seems to be an awful lot of people having problems with Assassins Creed, freezing and frame rate issues, well there is a fix you'll be glad to know, and its an easy one, all you have to do is disable the information board, press triangle on it and disable it and these problems should go away. Also do not sign into the psn network
This has worked for me (for now) and a few others but please get back to us and tell whether it worked for you or not
I don't like all this release now, patch later crap that's starting to filter down into console land from PC land. Haven't had any issues with Assassins Creed, but I was really looking forward to Mass Effect, but the reviews ( despite praising it very highly ) all say it's buggy as hell.
I have Mass Effect. My wife and I have played for about 4 hours. It is really, really good. Should be though, the back of the manual lists about 200 people involved in making it!
Still, it sets the bar so high in the cinematic/rpg game that I am sure other folks with similar games incubating are now re-evaluating.

Was hoping Mass Effect was a 360 and PC release :(. Wonder how it compares to Witcher. Currently thats my RPG of the year.

Yup, yup, and yup.
we even had it "freeze" half way through an animation, everything was still active, you could rotate the camera, but you couldnt move etc.
Also, the PS3 version seems to have audible compression artifacts on the sound, whereas the X360 sounded pretty damn sweet. I don't get it!?
Right now i'm seriously trying to get tracy to sell the Ps3. I want my wii360 back.

She's playing it now, it was just at I recon 4fps. really, really jolty.

And again, and it's disconected from the net and the boards disabled.
so, i HATE to see what kind of performance that guy was getting.
and the 360 has xna :)
wonder if ps3 yaroze will make a comeback?
but the PS3 has Linux ;-)
Sounds like poor programmers to me! Heard alot about the PS3 being harder to program than the 360. Maybe they just need time to adjust? Either way, i don't think you can blame the hardware too much.
yeah, I heard that PS3 coding is a lot more like programming shaders. You program lots of little programs that perform very specialised tasks that a SPU can handle. The the streaming processors are quite limited and like to function in certain ways making it hard to port from the PC or other consoles. A straight port would run abysmaly and required pretty much recoding from scratch to make proper use of the hardware.
Porting between PC, 360 and WII is pretty straightforward in comparison.
well, I have to say, there's nothing in Assassins creed that couldnt be done in B3D with simpler graphics. its all stuff thats just "first time" because the systems are just becoming fast enough to handle it.
I never considered Generate Faces etc to be cool- they wont take much computationaly. Realistic sight AI isnt *too* difficult either if the engine can cull efficiently.
"If <enemy can see player> and <player hides next frame> then <enemy look in hiding place>" seems to be the hilight here.
Evak said i earlier. Assassins creed is more of a tech demo really, the next few should be kick ass.
Anyway, this is about racers so i'll bugger off- since i'm not happy about any of the current racers.

Until it was actually released, I was thinking it would be actually XBox 360 exclusive. However now that it's been proven that the XBox360 is incapable of delivering such a game in a satisfying manner (for every time there's something awesome, like alien sex cut scene, there's something stupid, like endless elevator rides).
The only game that marginally qualifies as a racing game that I'm waiting for is GTA4 - maybe an F-Zero game or something for the Wii. I couldn't really care much what it looks like. My favorite racing games so far have been Diddy Kong Racing and LEGO Racers.
I don't have any of the new consoles but the idea of downloading patches for a console doesn't sit right. Framerate issues I would think shouldn't be a problem either - shouldn't the developer design the game to suit the hardware? It does certainly sound like consoles are just becoming PCs that are less useful.
How many people have access to the net from their living room and heavy old TV? I certainly don't, would require 100 foot cable.
So I guess many people are forced to pay $60 to update their firmware by buying one of the latest games that includes the patch when you install the game.
Or pay 80$ for the overpriced X360 wireless adapter thats not even WPA2 or WPA-AES capable ...
Playing Assassins Creed today on X360. Really beautiful visually. Great sound etc ... There is just something about it that has not engaged me. Maybe after a few more hours I'll be engrossed. Hope so I really want to like this game a lot.
BTW. No frame rate issues from what I can see. Stays smooth even with lots and lots of other people wandering about.
I would love to see an amalgam of this game and Oblivion. To me that would be RPG Nirvana.
My wife and I are hoping to complete Mass Effect by Sunday. She made a really cool looking female "Shepard" and has really been sucked into this game. There are some quirkiy bits, but it really is something special. We are loving it ATM. I'll follow up when we reach the end.
Happy USA Turkey Day to all of us Heathens that partake of the bird. To others, Happy Tofurkey Day :)
