Any updates to the Grey Alien Framework? Are those Tuts promissed some time ago done?
I'm posting this because if I had used the framework from the begining with my Dax Robot game I wouldn't be having the problems I'm having now with menus and screen switching. So before I start intergrating the current code in to the GA Framework I'd like to know if the tuts or any updates are done.
Thanks! :)
Email GA?
Yesy i could have but I wanted to post here to see if the guy who was working on the tuts has finished them. Don't know his email.
Oh him. He hasnt been on IRC for a bit. Probably busy with school, or something.
I'm here, although I haven't finished anymore tutorials yet. Quite a few things came up in my life, including a job, school, and various other issues.
I had a tutorial in the making before all of that came up, and hopefully I'll return to working on it soon.
If this week isn't too busy, and provided I don't have too much school-work, I'll take a look and begin working on the tutorials again.
Cool. I got one tutorial and it was good but I was hoping for more as you said that you were working on it. I look forward to seeing it soon.
Amon: V1.05 of the framework will be out in early December. That'll be a great version to integrate with. Many cool things including Vista support, improved Mac support, TBitmapFont and a zillion other things...you can have a pre-release if you want - just ask nicely.
Hi, Cool that there may be more Tutorials. :)
Yes I'll ask nicely Jake. Can I have the latest pre-release version of the framework, please? :)
Sure I'll email it over now. Let me know if you don't get it.
Hi Grey. I've not got it yet.
Did you send it? If yes, to which email addy?
I sent it the three I had: kamikazekrow.com and kamigames.com. maybe email me with an address I can resend to?
Can you try sending it to the one in my profile again? I'm not sure why I'm not getting the email. I'll go and check the spam settings on the mail server and see what's going on.
sending now. Just whitelist me dude (address in my profile). It's a zip. Plus another non-zipped with some source and files (no .exes).
Got it, thanks. :)
phew!
Can I have a pre-release copy as well please grey.... ? Regards, BP.
OK sure emailing now to your profile email.
.
it didn't make it to my account grey.... shall i just wait for the release to hit the streets ? By the way thought you might like to know I managed to secure a contract with the education board with software generated with your framework. Cheers.
Yay, that's great news thanks! Good to hear nice stories. I tried the email in your profile. How about emailing me and I'll try a reply?
Hey I released the BETA of my game today! It's done, everything is in there, all the levels, graphics, sounds etc. Just needs a bit more testing and it'll hit the streets on December 6th! (then shortly afterwards I'll do a framework release).
booya :)
Great to hear that :-)
This framework is just great ... managed to get a basic prototype of my next game up in less than 15 hours with all the handling for profiles etc ... :-)
hey grey allen,
well there be tutorial?
Cheers Grey, all the best with your next release.... thanks again for all the work you've invested in your framework. My initial stab at my product was quite ambitious (in B3d), it was only with your framework that an indie with my time constraints could realise my project. Is it still too early for seasons greets ?
I've discovered JV-ODE, its for b3d what your product is for BMax (B3d associated) ... so maybe my initial stab will see the light of day yet...
Dreamora: Thanks, great to hear that!
HotShot2005: Well there's a getting started guide, a tutorial, some docs and some example code. But I want to add more or course.
BP: Thanks! Good luck with you new project, I just say your trucking game in the showcase.
Great that you still polish on the Framework grey.
I'm impressed!
I can wait for the december release, no curret projects, had a daughter 11 weeks ago, no idle hands here :-)
what a beauty! and so much hair already, cool... Congratulations to your wife and to you too of course! My daughter is 7 months now, Jesus what do I miss some sleep in one part ;) But you can't really be angry ^^
wedoe: Hey wow congrats man! She even looks a bit like you if I recall your picture from way back. Well enjoy this time, the ups and downs, cos it all changes so fast (as I'm sure you know) :-)
Thanks both :o)
looks more like winston churchill to me ;)
I don't think the texturing is right. The body looks like a doll.
congrats wedoe... they grow up before you know it.. (;-)
Might as well use this thread to annouce that the Public Beta of my latest game has been released. Well it's been releasted to Big Fish Game's special beta testers, so if you are one of those you can play it. It'll be wrapped and released on Dec 6th, I'll post about it then.
THX BP :o)
When can we expect you to release version 1.05?
Soon. Before Christmas. I have to decide if I'm going to do a radical overhaul of the docs and turn it into a module as that will take longer. First up I have to release Holiday Bonus and Fairway Solitaire on the Mac (start of next week), and translate Oz into Russian also, and revamp my website (someone else is doing the code for me). I could probably do a "normal" release in about a day but it would have fancy new docs, just the normal ones pdated to V1.05...
How long is longer? IMHO docs are often a very crucial part of a software. We all know about the BMax docs (although they got better now) So, my opinion is to take your time and deliver clean docs, nice and many examples (short bbdoc integrated examples of the syntax ), getting started docs, maybe _private Synatx ;)
And bbdoc is the way to go.
My 2cents ;)
I don't know until I get started and then I could see how long say 5% took and then extrapolate. To do it all properly could take weeks (there's a *lot* of code that needs documenting and I'm always very thorough with documentation - used to write a lot for my last job) but the thing is I have to earn money meanwhile by writing another game. I guess the thing to do is get started and gradualy improve over time...
One thing I'm thinking of doing is starting a forum for users to swap advice and example code etc. I'm going to email all my customers to see if anyone feels like helping with that.
Yes that would be cool. Ie the online B3D manual is very nice and it improves over time. Simply create a thread for every command and add what you have now and every one could add or ask. That way you also have one place where everything and is don't have to loose so much time sending the data to everyone or answering the same noob questions over and over again ;)
I've now brought it - need it for profile selection/created for my new game.
MrTAToad: Processed your order at lunchtime today, thanks! Do you have it yet? If not there may be some filtering going on with your ISP. Yeah if you don't use my whole framework you'll at least be able to rip out the profile creation stuff and rework it to your needs.
Yes, I've got them fine - been a bit busy to reply, unfortunately, until now.
