hehe cool. I'm looking forward to getting this. I don't like playing full price for downloads, so I'll be grabbing a copy as soon as I can get a boxed one in the local store.

The demo was the best FPS I have played to date, both graphics, physics, AI and offering a lot of freedom when deciding how to go about taking out the enemies.

Even on my rather ancient system the demo runs reasonably well with high settings.

I didn't look since I heard it was going to be out on the 16th.

I returned Gears of War and reserved Crysis instead so I'm going to have to wait till my local store says its avaliable for pick up. Might pop around there this evening :)

How will it run on my GeForce 3? Anyone? That's the -real- question.

You could try it in all low settings but then it will look rubbish. I have an athlon64 3000+ and 7800GS and get 20fps if I'm lucky at high settings 1024x768

lower res 800x600 made little difference.

It's still quite playable so long as you don't mind slideshow cut scenes and take out the bad guys from a distance :)

Crysis was supposedly released yesterday (13 Nov) here in Australia but I could not find it locally. Will check again today.

It's been a big few weeks. Bought HL2:Orange Box, TimeShift, Call of Duty 4 for Xbox360 and Hellgate:London and The Witcher for PC. With Crysis, BlackSite:Area 51, Mass Effect and Need For Speed:Pro Street due over the next few weeks, I'll have enough to keep me busy until the end of the year.

I noticed on installing the last set of beta drivers (for the Crysis demo) that they seem to have done something nasty to vsync, in that 2D-in-3D games get a really nasty flicker/tearing effect every 5-10 seconds (RockOut is a good example, moving the rocket about) with vsync set to either "application setting" or "force off" in the driver control panel, while "force on" results in really jerky performance.

The same is happening with these drivers, and it only seemed to start with the last lot. Does anyone else get this?

I installed these drivers but suffered random "There are driver errors." messages. The display restored itself to 4-bit mode @ 320x240 and I had to restart. I have reverted now to some old 15x drivers.

The drivers run perfectly here, but I don't play 2D games so I wouldn't know if there was a problem in that department.

On Friday, I am going set my "Whinnie the Pooh" alarm clock for 8am. I shall get into the city for 8:30 - Large myself - then get home by at least 9.00am and play it like a willing sausage who knows what to do with double-sided tape.

Oh yeh - I've got some moves on me. I'm not going to stand in a queue waving a little voucher about, only for some passing albatross to steal it out of my hand.

I'm still playing The Witcher with my wife watching. Have to finish that before I can play Crysis after work and I'm only in the end of Act 3 lol. Don't want to get on the wrong side of the missus! :)

Heh, I purchased and installed Crysis yesterday, but don’t plan on starting it until I’ve finished Call of Duty 4 (which should not be too much longer).

@BlitzSupport. I tried running Rockout under all the Nvidia Control Panel Vertical sync settings and noticed no problems in any case. Windows XP, 640MB 8800GTS.

Always strikes me as strange that the Graphics card drivers fix problems with games... And their the "Official drivers" for it too.

It does make the phrase "tail wagging the dog" spring to mind, doesn't it?

Anyway, I played a couple of hours of this yesterday and I can safely say that I'll be happy if I never have to play that rubbish again.

Even on high the graphics are poor, far too brightly colored for my taste. Call of Duty 4, among several others, looks much, much better than this. The AI is practically non-existant unless you're impressed by opposing soldiers taking cover when you shoot and then popping out occasionally to shoot back. Flanking? Flushing? Tactics? Hell no, it's like F.E.A.R. never happened.
Best of all, it's bugged as all get out. I spent twenty minutes listening to three pieces of metal constantly clattering against one another because the physics engine had messed up and couldn't stop three objects from constantly colliding with one another, not even when I joined in and tried to push one of them away to stop the din. Save game while in a vehicle and prepare for the controls to go kaka when you reload.

About the only good thing I can think of to say is that the graphics are technically impressive if you know what's going on, despite not actually being especially attractive.

I don't know about the best FPS released this year, I'm not even convinced it's the best FPS released this week. The new sequels to Area51 and and Soldier of Fortune both look better than this, and Gears of War and Call of Duty 4 most certainly are better.

But hey, fortunately for those who disagree with me it will sell craploads and help to hasten the death of the PC gaming industry regardless of whether I like it.

Crysis is Large. It Larges all - it Larges in your face.

I am jolly-well buying it and I shall buy sweeties too. Maybe some new mittens.

More than that, it left a great big steaming pile of large on my carpet.

I sometimes do that when my Huggies Adventurers slip off.

Got my copy of Mario Galaxies a few hours ago ... no reason for me to waste my time on a game with that less content and that many problems as Crysis :-)
And if I should be in the mood for a shooter: TF 2 or Shadowrun Survivor for the go :)

They have still gone ahead and crippled the Very High settings for WinXP.

I'll try and hack them up to Very High - as per the demo.
