Was a bit surprised, but I guess so long as someone carries the torch for them they don't need the expense. Things havent been too rosy for them the last couple of years.

Also looks like the new low price PS3 has no backwards compatibility with PS2 whatsoever. A bit of a bummer for those that were waiting for a cheaper version to play their old games on.

Well, the fatal flaw in the new PS3 is it appears that it looks like the PS3 - ie it is ugly and I don't like it.

I interpret that as 67.5 of the world's population think it is ugly. 12.6% of the world's population is blind and cannot tell (they cannot vote). 12.6% of the world's population are ugly and find it reassuring - their vote is void. 7.3% percent of the world's population are employed by, or related to an employee of Sony - their vote is void (by default).

The only eligable people in the world who can vote = 100% of the eligable vote. The math adds up - it's ugly.

I think the Wii looks the best of the consoles. Shame I don't care for the games. At the end of the day looks of the system have little to do withing, the quality of the games and whether you like them are what counts.

Have to agree on the ugliness of the PS3 though, I thought the 360 was bad, but the PS3 takes the cake.

Same old, same old. I've always thought the PS2 is fugly.

Hmm, i don't get why people buy a PS3 and play PS2 games on it. Why not just keep your PS2? I thought it was a great idea that the PS2 was backward compatible with the PSone. i never actually bother to play ANY PSone games one it, cause i had games that looked a dam sight better. :o)

If i wanted to play my PSone games, i played them on my PSone. Some people are so lazy and can't be arsed switching a cable round :D

I'm trying to get one of the old 60GB models with the PS2 hardware.

As for the Cell stuff, I think they are just backing out of the manufacturing but I could be wrong. I thought they would still help on the R&D.

the 60GB models are still stacking up here and funnily they get acceptable price wise now that sony dropped them?!
They had a price drop of 1/9 of their previous price (899 CHF to 799 CHF for the motostorm and other racer package with 2 controller. The 40 GB one is 649 CHF, given the fact that a controller costs 80 CHF, that makes like 60 CHF of a difference ... and given the fact that a single PS3 game costs at best 99 CHF and at worst 119 CHF, this is definitely no reason to waste money und a Disc cut down version if you are already willing to waste money on fake technology by Sony)

Hmm, i don't get why people buy a PS3 and play PS2 games on it.
Because there aren't any PS3 games to play on it yet?

I'd certainly hope so. The way I see it, the Cell is pretty much the only thing Sony have going for them.

An no offense to Mac owners or anything, but if you buy consumer electronics based on aesthetics, you're getting what you deserve.

Why bother buying one then? WHy not wait and the price will fall even more, then get one?

Too true...

if you buy consumer electronics based on aesthetics, you're getting what you deserve.
Buy a pig, look at a pig.

If its in a location like your living room then it matters.

Because by then it probably won't even be able to play 1. generation PS3 games?

If its in a location like your living room then it matters.
Not necessarily. You can always hide it from plain view. Like say in an entertainment center.

Yeah. Tell that to girl friends, wives or just people with taste and a sense for beauty.

Hiding stuff is not always an option, so I gladly trade in raw computing power for something that looks nice and does not produce noise.

If only companies like Sony planned ahead with their customers in mind and not their bank balances, they would be in far less trouble than they currently are.

Having said that Cell Shaded Zelda? A tv remote shaped controller ? A name like 'Wii' ??!!!!

- what do I know! lol.

IPete2.

Anyone noticed how the next gen consoles all resemble kitchen appliances? :D

The kettle and waffle iron:

Or how about the electric knife sharpener (with high tech salt and pepper pot):

Looks like the kitchen look is "In"

It's called Kitchen Chic - it's the new black. Do try and keep up! :P

Your re-enforcing my point rather well.

I thought the ps2 was pretty retarded looking. PS3 continues the trend. I wouldn't care for the 360 or the wii's aesthetics too much, but compared to the ps3-- they look lovely.

Remember when videogame consoles actually looked like videogame consoles?

Sorry for the thread hijack.
Sorry for the large images. Can you resize images using the forum code?

I liked the plans for the original Xbox, when they were talking about having an extra model for hifi buffs that resembled a regular DVD player.

I prefer something that doesn't looke like a games machine and has no cables. Wireless controllers are nice, but the systems themselves are an eyesore.

Todays PS3 news is that it will be supporting the DIVX video codec in an upcoming update.

Actually that was yesterday's news. =]
