multiplayer on one machine?

multiplayer. How many of you play multiplayer games on one system with friends. ie PES or spit screen games like rambow 6 vagas on the xbox 360? or if your into retro Golden eye on the N64.

The reason why i ask is ive been working on a racing game which it the first game ive made with split screen 4 player.

My idea is to make a multiplayer game package with 2 very different racing games and a small fps deathmatch game. I started off this side project with a friend as something we can play when we meet up at a mates on sunday evening. The first racing game is already very fun. Do you think anyone would play non internet multiplayer games or is the market now dead?

Me. In fact it's the only way I play multiplayer games. Even MMOs.

A few times, mainly mario kart 64, some beatum ups. But never on a PC. PC's are genrally in the corners of rooms with only a keyboard and mouse, a games console is alot more fun for this type of thing.

Personally i like split screen games but i wouldn't make it for more than two players as you hardly have them around.

I don't usualy like split screen MP, but I loved lotus turbo challenge and The settlers 2 on the Amiga. Split screen MPP RTS with two mice was brilliant :)

I like split screen but any more than 2 and your asking for trouble if you've alot of keys. Some keyboards don't allow you to press more than a couple of keys concurrently which are on the same row for some reason.

i guess we dont have a normal setup. At the friend in questions house he has his PC in his lounge pluged into his 32" LCD with a 4 way ps2 controler adaptor. Ive been running my game at wide screen 1360x780 which looks great. So you dont think i will have many customers then?

That's almost exactly the same setup as I have.

Nope. I'm thinking you're about 3 or 4 years ahead of the times.

Offline multiplayers are sorely lacking. Nothing better than getting a mate round and hammering through a co-op mission mode.

I use ps2 adapters myself - I can't imagine playing anything on the pc without them! A mouse and keyboard for control ( other than menus ) is naff and a major pain in the arse to cater for when you're designing a game which is not suited to keys etc..

I'm seriously considering dual analogue joypad control only for my current game. Sure I may lose some sales ( if I decide to sell it ) but it just plays so much better with a decent joypad.

I think multiplayer in the same room is much more fun than online gaming, ok so for some games like Battlefield 2 its not really practical, but simple fun games with your mates all sat round a big tv is great fun. The ps2 adaptors great if you have a playstation or ps2 because the adaptors are so cheap now.

I didnt like rainbow 6 vagas (xbox360) much in one player but co-op rocks.

I will finish the games off as a brake from main project and if me and my friends have fun playing them I will sell them from my site, even if i get only a couple of sells i dont mind.

I very happy with the racing game it uses jv_ode and i was surprised how realistic i could make it. The FPS game is working but looks very ugly. I wanted to recreate the one shot kills mode on goldeneye with only pistols it makes for some tence matchs, of course i would make it look very different ;O)

Anyway I have some questions about analogue joypads, but ill save that for a post in the programming forum
