Videogame childhood in 4 minutes

One would think that this guy must of had a lot of free time on his hand when he was younger to be playing all these games....but thinking about it now, I've probably at one point or another have play just about every single one of them too (not back then but ever since i got my hand on some emulators and roms..)

cool. Seems to be mostly mario, football and fighting games though. I think most were console and Gameboy right (+a few Amiga ones), didn't see any C64 and Spec ones, maybe he's not old enough ;-)

I was thinking just the other day what as someone who is (and has always been) someone who is very good at games a huge amount of useless skills I have, I am:

One of the world's #1 Unreal Tournament Assault players (with the screenshots to prove it, I happened across them last week).
A Cybernoid 2 Expert.
An Exolon Master
A Killer Instinct Combo Master
A Mortral Kombat Executioner.
A Nebulus Demoltion Expert
A Bionic Commando Elite.
and many, many others.

If only I could have taken up golf with the same enthusasim I would be giving tips to Tiger Woods.

All console, primarily SNES & Genesis, with a snidget of NES/Gameboy thrown in for good measure.

I think it's sad that I could name 95% of the titles in that video......goes to show how much time I spent playing games as a kid.

That vid reminds me that I still need to figure out where the hell I got Stunt Race FX stowed away, it's the only SNES game I don't have organized with the rest of my gaming collection.


My childhood gamin' started on the NES here, never dealt with a PC until my aunt gave my family a 486 66mhz DX20 when she purchased a Pentium1, and spent quite awhile playing all the point-and-click adventures by LucasArts.
(god I miss the DOS days, gaming was less a hassle requirement wise due to everything being software rendered)

My first memory of a 'proper' game was Avenger on the ZX81

Great memories there, played most of those games myself, shame about the music though. Best watched in silence I believe.

Genexi2: But don't forget the *added* hassle of having two dozen incompatible soundcards (not all games supported each card, so you had to hope that it recognized yours). Also the huge hassle of fitting all required driverrs such as mouse, IPX (network), CD-ROM etc. all in your 640KB base memory in addition to the game itself.

Pretty annoying to have to make multiple startup profiles loading and skipping specific drivers or you wouldn't have all functionality (or even be impossible) to play certain games. I don't really miss that part of the 'good old days'.

Ahh yes, I remember those problems. If I recall correctly, it was always about the Adlib and Sound Blaster issue. And I happened to have one of those "Sound Blaster - Adlib Compatible" sound cards which of course, only worked half the time for every game I installed from those 3.5in "floppy" disks.

Only real hassle I had with my DOS PC was remembering the damn IRQ/SRQ settings of my SoundBlasterPro (which worked on all but one game flawlessly that I owned thank god), otherwise I already had everything nice and organized into bat files for conventional-memory reasons.
(because some of my games were anal about taking as much of that memory as possible, requiring me to disable my CD-Rom drivers for them)

Still faster than it is to wait on WinXP to fully load each and everytime you turn on your PC though....

Me being one of the younger ones here, my first games included Commander Keen, Monster Bash, Wacky Wheels, Gorilla, Secret Agent, Pickle Wars, Crystal Caves, Treasure Island, etc. Oh and 7th Guest gave me nightmares. Ah and the line of awesome lerning games such as Operation Neptune, Spellbound, Gizmos & Gadgets, and the Put-Put series.

Lol....anyone remembers "Number Munchers"? They use to make us play that in second grade on our high tech Applle IIGS. BTW - at the time we were on the cutting edge with having a computer in the classroom...

Ah so some of those games must have been release on Amiga too like James Pond (or was it Robocod) etc.

Yeah DOS gaming was a fag but I made my PC boot up with a DOS menu that I could select a different config depending on the game I was about to play. I used to CHARGE people to go round their house and make them a special boot disk for their games :-)
