Anyone had any success with speech recognition.

I don't mean coding it, I just mean using something like Viavoice (or a freeware equivalent) with a decent microphone, or is it still bad and slow? (It was last time I tried this out about 5 years+ ago)...

dragon naturally speaking has come a looooooong way in the past 5 years. I've been pretty impressed with how good it is now even with only minimal training.

Yeah I would vote for Dragon Speak too.

I have always found that unless you have a Californian accent they are quite unreliable.

It's 1/3rd the price of the "Preferred" version. What is it missing that I might need I wonder? I suppose they offer an intelligent upgrade route...

I tested these once every couple of years.
Now Dragon has a fixed place on my computer ;)

I tried DNS9 recently and didn't have much luck with it. I think you need to have a headset mic.
I used a nice Rode condenser mic on a boom near my head and the performance was so foul i got rid of it.

Yeah, you've been able to issue voice commands to OS X for a few versions now. Since 10.2 or 10.1, I think. Anyway, look under System Preferences -> Speech
