building a dx9 machine?

ok, i want a new machine to tide me over for another year. I only want it for dx9, not into the whole dx10 thing just yet and don't want to spend too much. Just need it for programming on and using bmax+truevision3d, might play some games too. Lived with an amd 1.7ghz, geforce 4200ti and 512mb of ram for 6years.

Don't need a monitor, speakers or keyboard+mouse. So basically what do i need ie mobo, pwer supply, case etc, i built systems for myself years back but haven't done it in 6years and am not so up on it now.

Id like at least some kind of gf7 or better, 2gb of ram and a core 2 duo cpu.

You could get a base unit from Mesh, about £500 for a 8600GT,2 gig of ram and a 2.2GHz core 2 duo.

Get a Dell.

i want to build it myself and am now looking at the 8800gt, it's such a good card, i might as well stick one of those in.

I think i'll do some research this week and maybe get one at the end of the month.

Yeah sinu, if that is your kind of price range, 8800gt is def the way to go. Check out Novatech.com for motherboards and 8800gts. Ebuyer didn't have gts in yet, but their prices are very good and they may do by the time you buy.

BFG 8800gt, intel Quad 6600, Abit motherboard, 2 GB ram, 500GB hard drive, DVD drive, case, power supply and vista.
Everything apart from monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers for £840.

Overclockers and scan. Look for deal of the day and weekly specials.

Was going for small upgrade, but then for the price have a top of the range pc.

Hah! But seriously, if you're going to buy a cheap computer for the explicit purpose of throwing it out in a years time or so, Dell is the perfect brand.

I was thinking of going quad core but it won't really benefit me.

I only went for Quad because the price was right.
