PC Games on PS3.

I suggest Sony release a new PS3 which is not the electronic equivalent of the Elephant Man.

I had to talk myself out of buying a PS3 today. Only 2 of the 60gb (fully backwards compatible) models left at the local Best Buy - and they had a deal going on - buy one and take your choice of

a) Heavenly Sword
b) Lair
c) an extra wireless controller.

They've also got the 5 free blu-ray deal going on. I'd end up using it more as a media center/SACD player, so for me that's a great deal. And while I can afford it, that money should be going towards books or school or any number of other things, so I managed to remain responsible and just walk out with the webcam I went to buy.

Hmm, maybe if I could sell my PS2 I could justify buying it. Anyone want a PS2 for cheap? :D

Works without any lag. That I'd like to see. Surely the process of streaming the graphics sound and inputs over the home network will put a huge overhead on your PC, so you'll be getting much lower frame rates in your games than playing locally.
Also, PC games normally use many more keys than buttons on the controller, so I can't see this being an option for games such as playing WoW or flight sim on your PS3 or 360 console.

So i can play bioshock on my Nokia and use the phone the same time as controller for my dvd player to rip movies onto the ps3 harddisk?

How do they intend to serve more games than they will have physical machines? Assuming this gets anywhere, and I doubt it will, how many people can they serve games to at any time without just loading the game onto their machine and hoping it works?

Edit: I see. You still have to provide the hardware yourself, and set up a LAN for it. .. Why would you bother?

That's not a "choice". That's like being asked to chose between getting shot, getting stabbed or getting a kick in the crotch.

You can get one of two of the worst single player games for the platform, or an extra controller to not play any games with. What's the deal there?

It'll work because DX8 is completely backward compatible. This is actually very cool, I can't wait to get my PS3 now ;)

No it isn't, it's only backwards compatible to DX6, and only because (on Windows) DX8 includes DX 6 and DX 7 as part of its runtime. Since this program is apparently for Linux, I don't see how this is even probably going to work.

I'm thinking they're just fishing for venture capitalists, prior to "discovering" that the project was over ambitious.

I just tested this on my local network and was amazed at how good it is.

Any game your server , thats the machine you play your games on normally, can play, will stream over your network to a crappy computer with amazing results.

I was playing World of Warcraft on my laptop with nice shiny GFX, while my laptop itself couldnt run wow at 640*480 never mind 1024*768.

I hope this takes off, I also hope they remove the damn fee to upgrade accounts.

there is a fine blitzmax DX9 driver written by Doug Stastny on the forum. (it's also compiled into my pacimage mod for your own use)

somehow I can't help but thinking of Linspire (originally named 'lindows') which advertised being able to run nearly all windows-based games from their Linux-based OS.

(using a modded version of Wine I guess. Didn't take long before they had to admit that it was a chronic exaggeration, when next to no *Actual* games or programs would work on it, let alone the random off the shelve 'put in a CD and it will work'

If this works that would be great. I'll believe it when I see it though. Besides, at the rate PC games are drying up from store shelves, who cares?

How is this even remotely useful? There's very little chance you could do anything else with the "server" at the same time. Run two copies of Bioshock and let me know how that goes.

If it really works this would be interesting as it could spare you spending a lot of money for pc hardware. Anyway since the pricedrop the PS3 is doing much better and sales increased a lot. Now they need to finish and ship games like LBP and Brütal Legend.

No. It advertised being able to run nearly all windows applications. Which it does. The Cedega project will run nearly all windows games. If you have an nVidia GPU.

The game runs on your PC and is only going to run as well as your PC can run it. The video is sent to a PS3 (or any other PC) and the input from the PS3 (or other PC) is sent back to the PC that is actually running the game.

Playing the game is still dependent on how good your PC is.

I read it wrong the first time, and you are correct. I can see why I read it wrong though - the whole idea sounds totally worthless...
