Roughly 16 hours to go - Crysis - touching

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Roughly 16 hours to go - Crysis - touching

Yep, the Crysis demo is a mere 16 hours away.

I think it will be released at midday tomorrow UK (GMT) time.

I have my place reserved in the Pay per Large-it queue at File Planet.

I've heard a rumour that the demo has already been released (as a limited 24 hour early demo for certain people) - so keep your eyes open - it will surely appear on file servers in a short space of time.

If I see it - I will take it - regardless of how many people moan that I am a cheating little rodent.

Further info:

nVidia have released new drivers for the demo - so nVidia users (possibly ATI users too) should check for updated drivers.

I've found both demos.

There is a DX9 and a DX10 version.

Both are on Rapidshare.

Good job I have a Rapidshare subscription - I shall be playing this little baby tonight.

S-T.

Oh, no.. yet another boring first person shooter.. yaaawnnn...

There will be some good media in there - I've already exported the Crysis beta media onto my media hard-drive.

Plays best on quadcore processors... Who has one?

..i've got a dual with a 256mb nvidia 7600 :D

If you have Vista, apparently, you need more than 4 gigs of RAM to properly load the game, else it will load much slower...

Anyhow, my system is XP PRO SP2, Opteron dual core 2.8ghz, R480 graphics core with 256 GDDR3, 2 Gigs of dual DDR @ 6GB/s bandwidth.

I am positive my specs are too low for this game, either because it will require shader model 3, or because of the 256 mb or graphics memory, or low ram.

I think this game will make people upgrade their hardware in an insane way, and I believe that is why Microsoft is behind this game, as well as Electronic Arts. Lot's of marketing, lot's of pushing, lot's of technology swapping between the german team and the american big names.

Hrummph - it's just FarCry with better trees and some fancy menus isn't it?

2g ram is recommended for the game, 256mb is min requirement for it, and i think you need like 3.6ghz...the specs are somewhere here

Ahhh! Right. Thanks! After reading the minimum requirements, I can gladly estimate that my system is in the minimum requirements. At least I'll be able to play this game. But I can't say that about my friend's P3 + TI4200 gear :P . Truely insane requirements.

Of course we should be treated with insane gameplay and visuals.

If I get "GPU - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS/640 or similar" (*this*), then I'll be in the recommended! LOL! I'll wait a few weeks to make sure of my choice, 8800GT, or newer Radeons comming out, I'll settle on one of those.

My brother's been beta testing the multiplayer game, and it doesn't require insane system specs to run decently. It looks great, but there are multiplayer 'issues', such as snipers being able to blow you away from miles away while you're running, so you just suddenly die with no way to avoid it.

There were other problems specific to multiplayer balancing which seemed like they would seriously ruin the experience, but they would have no effect on the single player game (of which I have no knowledge, beyond GameTrailers videos).

Someone posted this on my forum:

puki: how's the touching going?

Nice, if my download speed remains constant, I'll get it in a little under two hours :)

That's probably about how long it will take to render each frame on my PC...

Well, all I can say is it absolutely 'Pampers Pull-ups' all over the beta (which was bent).

Imagine a small igloo - now imagine it next to a cube. The cube does not know who you are - this bit is irrelevent, but it makes it more interesting. How do you know if the igloo knows that the cube knows that we know the igloo is small?

Think about it.

I'll carry on playing the demo.

Amazing. I love it.

The breakable trees are just a bunch of break points spaced about a foot apart, so that is mostly just a brute force feature. But the lighting is awesome.

Plays best on quadcore processors... Who has one?

[raises hand] 2.4Ghz Core 2 Quad (Q6600). Graphics card: 640mb 8800GTS. Will be very interesting to see how it performs. Downloading now. 3hrs to go @ 159KB/s.

I'll try it on my 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo notebook as well, though the graphics chipset is inferior too. 256mb 8600GT.

Christ, 1.8gb, as if the 1.4gb demo of Call of Duty4 didn't take long enough to download.......

Downloadin' it the second I get back to my college dorm Sunday, see how badly my aging rig can run it.

Btw, does the demo include full detail textures? I know quite a few games that kill off the high-texture option to lower the filesize for downloading, but the bloody thing is 1.8gb still...

So, after playing this game for about an hour or so, I can say it really is quite something. Smooth gameplay with medium setting on all about everything, some rare high settings, like sound. The speed it runs is very good for such a high demanding game, smooth gameplay. Thoe, the graphics really take a hit, specially the fact I only have 256mb on the ATI card, which is way too little for this game. The other problem is my ATI has shader model 2, which broke the game at some point! I can't put the display back to normal, and it's just getting worse, so I blame it on the programming as it clearly forgot I have an SM 2.0 card and is using SM 3.0 scripts, which I can tell from the type of corruption happening with the effects as the textures are ok. Finally the game doesn't let me put Antialias on as 256MB of graphics ram is just enough to barely play the graphics in 1024x768, from what it seems.

I'll go back to the game, see if I can fix the graphics.

EDIT: Can't fix the graphics. Seems even uninstall + delete user data, and then reinstall can't fix the game display. Out of luck. Bah, I had a nice 1 hour of game play.

You can drive through houses and destroy them.

just got it, have to install new drivers, and got keyboard and mouse lag. Once I get down on the ground the FPS is good with medium settings. The menus suck, takes about 4 seconds to make a selection.

Getting the new NV drivers specially for the demo. People are saying that with them they can play on high settings as well as it used to play on medium.

Got to get the keyboard problem fixed, the dude keeps getting stuck moving in one direction. Probably silly MS keyboard drivers.

I can't really play it ... it's leaving all sorts of artifacts on the screen ... sounds like I might have the keyboard problem too. I'm pretty surprised at this release.

It runs much better now with the new Nvidia drivers. Well, acceptable framerates to be able to actually enjoy the game. Probably 15 - 30 fps (cutscenes with closeups drop a lot lower maybe 5-8fps) at 1024x760 on my system with everything on high except medium physics.

Oddly nothing really effects the framerate much on its own. My system is Athlon 64 3000+ overclocked to 2.2ghz. 1gb DDR ram, 256mb 7800GS, Nforce 3 mobo with onboard nvidia sound.

The game looks really rubbish in 800x600 so I'm going to stick to 1024x768

the new drivers fixed the keyboard and menu lag, amazing really.

Nice to see a real next gen PC game :)

Yeah the drivers did it for me too. I agree it's amazing the difference in graphical clarity from 800 X 600 to 1024 X 768! I'm running everything on Medium with no problems and am trying high ... though I expect disappointment ;)

Holy shiznit ... the difference in graphics quality from med to high is crazy. It runs a bit slow but the detail and shader effects are eerily realistic.

Impressive engine! A shame you need Vista / DirectX 10 to enable ‘very high’ settings. Anyway, on my XP / DirectX 9 desktop system (specs listed in earlier post, latest Nvidia driver) I played the demo on ‘high’ settings for everything and the performance was good at 1440x900, no FSA. With FSA enabled (even 2x) things slowed down considerably.

Memorable moments / features:

* Light streaming through a palm leaf at sunrise and the shadow on the ground swaying as the leaf did.
* Objects beneath the water, when viewed from above the water, actually look like objects beneath water.
* Texturing and bumpiness on some rocky tracks.
* Half the roof of a shack falling down behind me when I took shelter there from several grenade-throwing Koreans.
* Trees and vegetation mowed-down by high-calibre weapons fire.

EDIT: The attention to detail is nothing less than amazing. There's too many memorable moments and features to mention...

Well, the thing is - we can only play it at 'High' graphical setting. I want to see this thing running at 'Very High' - EA have removed the option to crank the graphics up to full.

I am particuarly delighted at how realistic the environments look - most realistic vedgetation I have ever seen.

The downside is the buildings fall apart to easily. I threw a small box at a building and the whole thing fell down. I class this as a major flaw.

Maybe they forgot to nail the wood sheets together or something. Yet I noticed the base of the shacks are firmly held to the ground with bolts, which IMHO is absurd.

The problem is, inside those buildings are goodies (weapons, ammo and other stuff) - they fall apart too easily - unrealistically easy - annoyingly easy - getting on my nerves too easy.

I consider this highly annoying - I have seen a building that I want to go inside and explore - I walk through the door - all of a sudden the thing has fallen down around me because a butterfly collided with it.

The buildings are bent.

I don't think Korea has the same building standards as the U.S.

I've yet to see a building break (haven't tried driving through them though), but they do look a tad unstable anyway.

I like it.

I played it once through on each difficulty, will be happy when it comes through my door.

The buildings seem pretty stable, I've only seen parts fall down after throwing a grenade in or shooting a wall repeatedly.

they seem ok to me, had the boat firing high caliber rounds at me through the building, and not much fell appart, only the rod supporting the horizontal hinged shutters smashed closing the window with a big bang.

It's playable on my system, but I bet its awesome on a modern rig that can play it at a silky smooth FPS

Yeh. My 8800 GTX gaming rig plays it like a silk.

I cannot wait for the full game so that I can push the graphics up higher. I'll even buy that bent, maggot, Vista to put this into DX10.

Easily the most graphically gorgeous game I have ever played. I loved Far-Cry for it's gorgeous environments.

Crysis is simply gorgeous - the shadows are simply excellent.

Certainly the closest commercial game to reach my graphical standards. I will include Crysis media into my projects.

It's awesome, I'll definitely be picking this up ... along with some new hardware components!

Never mind the gameplay, at least the graphics are stunning. Meh.

Actually I've no idea what the game is like, because it runs so pitifully slowly in some sections on my machine (which is actually a fairly decent spec).

Never mind the gameplay, at least the graphics are stunning. Meh.

Crap GPU, eh?

Well, mine's certainly 'crap'. Makes me wonder, though: how many people actually bother keeping their systems up-to-date in order just to play these types of games?

Can't imagine it's a huge audience. Personally, I gave up on PC games years ago.

I have a 7900GTO, and I'm running at 1680x1050 on all 'medium' settings.

I played it through, the game ROX! I loved grabbing a north korean by the throat until he passes out (hold him long enough and his eyes close and he kinda goes limp)

Are North Koreans the enemy now? It's hard to keep up.

This game is basically training us for the next war.

Oh, joy.

Since this looks great on my current system, I can say I definitely have no reason to switch to Windows Vista. This was the only thing that might have made me switch.

So how is the gameplay anyhow? From what I've seen and read, it's basically jut a more free-form version of FarCry no?
(which is a good thing imo, loved FarCry, aside from those enclosed forced building sections where my sniper was rendered useless)

Because all I've heard and read on forums is people either gawking over the graphics, the physics, or whining their PC can't run the thing up-to-speed on aging systems.....sorta like this thread!

This is also the same game where the lush visuals get turned into a frozen wasteland at some point no?

It seems very similar to Far-Cry.

Yes, there will be frozen sections.

I played the demo on my first generation iMac Core (2GB RAM, 2GHz, 256MB VRAM, XP SP2 with the now official BootCamp drivers). The playable settings for me were 1024x768 on medium details.

Well... Ok, I generally like FPS games. Crysis is a graphically extended version of FarCry, with koreans instead of mercs, War-of-the-worlds-style aliens instead of genetic experiments and a nano-suit instead of a Hawaii-shirt. Nothing new, and certainly nothing as original as the gameplay of Portal. The atmosphere does not reach HL2-EP2. I'll probably buy it anyway, after all the CryTek folks are sitting just a two hours drive away from where I live, so I should support them. ;-)

just a two hours drive away from where I live, so I should support them. ;-)

I'm pretty sure you don't live in the UK from that comment. If anything further than half an hour drive, then it's a bit of trek in my book. I do work on the same science park as frontier though, just need to get a sniper scope to watch 'em making elite 4 through the windows.

heh it's way better than HL2 in almost every way. Really nice game, fairly freeform gameplay with check/chokepoints to pick up the story.

A lot like Far Cry with pretty realistic long range sniping, the suits are actually quite cool. didn't like the sound of them, but they are actually quite limited short squirts of power you get from them.

Has halo like health shield combo in the suit, so you can go take cover and recouperate. Best FPS so far, Far cry was one of my previous faves which suffered from the graphics being dated. So its nice to come back to a similar game with everything improved. I'll play through it again in a harder setting, heard something about it being much more realistic then.

half-life beats this games butt any day (except for graphics)

heh, I didn't like HL2 much, and Ep1 even less. I guess it just depends on the kind of FPS you like.

Crysis is alright. Definitely a beautiful game, as far as realism is concerned. Gameplay-wise, I had a hard time getting into it with the speed being pretty awful even with an 8600 and 2.6ghz dual core. It's cool grabbing guys by the neck and throwing them, but I had pumped a full clip into one guy and he didn't go down at all. It's like you need to shoot them in the head or it won't work at all.

yeah, a lot of the guys seem to have some kind of body armour. If your using silenced weapons they do almost no damage because the bullets are different. Without the silencer you have much more stopping power and one or two hits will kill them normaly.

With the heavy mounted guns its dead easy to take them out. I prefer to not use the special powers that much, just strength for jumping and armour otherwise.

Yeah you need to pull off head shots in this game, which I think is nice. Everyone has armor and the silencer weakens the shots. I found the game very realistic within the context of the story anyway. I agree with Evak that this is the best FPS I've played. It's not on rails like Doom or HL and success requires a lot of cunning even with the suit which really just supports the base gameplay rather than making you superman. Going to play on the hard difficulty myself ... although I thought the guards were pretty intelligent on easy.

I installed it but whever I ran the game it changed the dimensions of my desktop. I hate it when a game does that. I uninstalled it.

andy_mc, if my last information is correct, the Yerli brothers live in Frankfurt/Main, and I'm near Bonn. ;-)

BTW have you seen the MP Powerstruggle video's it looks like Crysis MP will be really cool.

Crysis is a graphically extended version of FarCry,
That bad huh?

just need to get a sniper scope to watch 'em making elite 4 through the windows.
I don't think they're "making Elite 4" so much as sitting around trying to manifest it into existence through willpower alone. And failing miserably at that.

I guess it just depends on the kind of FPS you like.
I kinda liked NOLF, Deus Ex and C&C Renegade. How are my chances?

I found the game very realistic within the context of the story anyway.
I don't know what "realistic" means within the context of the game, but the only type of real world armour (particularly any type of armour North Korea would have access to) that will stop a full clip of fully-automatic carbine or rifle fire is "a Tank", "a brick wall" or "3 feet of tightly packed dirt". There is certainly no portable, wearable armour, capable of dissipating that amount of kinetic energy over such a small area, in such a short time.

Within the context of the story the technology is logical. So body armor etc... make sense and enhance the game just a bit. The most realstic aspect of the game is the weapon firing in my opinion as you cannot just run and gun like most FPS's you have to carefully line up each shot if you want to survive and even then it's tough to hit targets everytime.

I personally wasn't into Far Cry probably because I was expecting more run and gun gameplay. Crysis seems to be a better fit for the more tactical gameplay.

I just played the demo through again and liked it even better this time.

Still, except for the better graphics and the nanosuit, which is a pretty cool element in the game, there's not really anything new in Crysis when you compare it to FarCry. It's basically what FarCry:Source would look like. ;-)

Well, I'll buy it anyway.

Delta mode is pretty tough, no HUD stuff, and the bad guys have far better reactions and accuracy.

Regarding the body armour, you have to remember that the game is set in 2020, 12 years from now. I expect newer cheaper forms of body armour will be around by then.

In delta mode you get no helpfull glows around targets, no target reticule unless its the laser mount, no incoming fire direction indicator. The grenades are awesome and a totak surprise in Delta mode since there is no hud indicator highlighting them when thrown at you. Better AI, and the North Koreans dont speak english with OTT cheesy macho american accented phrases. They all speak Korean. It becomes much more realistic and you get killed with far fewer shots even with the nano armour.

So far it seems to be an excellent game, one of the few Demo's that I decided to play again after completion.

If you like a realistic shooter then Delta mode is a must :)

Anyone have a link to the MP demo?

Another new game demo that crashes my pc.

Has anyone unlocked the very high settings on XP ?

Cheers.

there are a bunch of tweaks avaliable at NVnews and tweakguides in their forums that let you activate many of the very high settings.

My video card is only a 7800GS though, so I havent tried it yet

Nice, can't even keep a steady 15fps with everything set to low @ 800x600 on my 256mb GF6800 GT.
(which is a shame since it looks worse than FarCry imo at that low a settings)

I'm getting about 20 - 25 fps or more with no action going on on a Sempron 3200+ with a BFG 7800 GT OC card. When things get hairy it dips down but if you play the game stealthily as I enjoy it seldom gets hairy.

I'm surprised how well the stealth ability works with regards to the AI. Managed to sneak out of a building they kept see'ing the need to toss frag grenades into, so I timed it so I could cloak and bail out between their throws, they toss another after I get a safe distance away. After that, they decide to see what's up, head inside to look for me, I snuck behind the building entrance, tossed a 'nade, and watched them all blow up. <.<

I was expecting them to be cheap and know where I was even when I cloaked since they were in an 'alarmed' state, which was a major annoyance back in FarCry if you liked to snipe stuff, where they always knew where you were for some reason.

Also, driving a truck off a ramped rock into a building's roof and killing the inhabitants inside with the building collapsing was quite fun.....even though it meant I had to bail out and find me a new ride. ;/
