Graphics Card Arrived

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Graphics Card Arrived

Hi, I've just plugged in my 7800GS+ AGP 512Mb card. Everthing is working fine.

What I don't understand is the AGP Aperture which is set in the BIOS thingy by hitting F2 on bootup.

The highest it will go is 256Mb.

Anyone advise me about this?

Thanks
Jim

If it is set at 64 or 128 then probably best leave it there.

256 might cause compatibilty problems.

Like Puki said. 64 and 128 have little or no difference, same with 256 except on occasion a game wouldn't run as well.

Would a GFX card with half a meg even used the AGP aperture?

Presuming you mean half a gig, yes, it might. I vaguely recall that Doom 3 used up to a gig of VRam if you played in the highest detail setting with normal map compression disabled.

Yes, I did mean half a gig. D'oh! :)

I believe you're supposed to set it to half or 1/4 the total ram on the card. Google it!

set agp aperture to 128mb

Thanks guys.

Is there a 'check' program to check the Graphics Card is fully working?

Jim

You could just run one of the video benchmark tools and compare your results to 'typical' for that make/model video card.
