Several places in Holland still get flooded. Dykes break and sewers burst open and flood streets. I am looking for 3d copper (water simulation) and 2d copper (water simulation) code. Could somebody place it in the library or in this thread?

Flooding is no laughing matter and can be very soul destroying as well as dangerous ( people have die this year in the UK as a result of flooding), to understand this you have to experience this first hand.
You can never predict flooding with accuracy, unless the same places flood on a regular basis.
The village I live in was last partially flooded in June 2007 (the next village less than 1/8th of a mile away from where my house is was 7 feet underwater in places and will take a year to recover) and the time before that it was fully flooded in 1947 / 1933 - 1939.
Mine and the next village got media coverage, but Hull was hardly mentioned at all and was one of the worst effect areas after Sheffield/Rotherham and Doncaster in the north.

1) Don't build on flood plains ( most places were built on farmland that was basically reclaimed marsh/moore land ) unless you .....
2) Build and maintain good flood defences and have a flood managment system in place.

Explains why Hull got no sympathy then, what with it being 1, and not doing 2 (filling in the drainage ditches for example)

We mess up nature, it soaks us ALOT, sounds fair to me.

No just that the film crews were hanging aroud Rotherham waiting for a reservoir to bust its banks, so that they could report more death and destruction. Filling drainage ditcthes would cause more flooding, they are there to get water off the land into the rivers but if a river is full then there's nowhere for it to go.
And then we have Toll Bar near Doncaster if the rumors are true ( and I think they are ) was sacrificed to save the town. A tributary which flows into the river Don had its flood defence's deliberately breeched, if the rumor is true.

And don't forget the great floods of 1829... one river rose 50 feet above it's normal course.
Ah, those were the days... when you could sail from one town to the next along the main thoroughfare.

the cam burst a few years before i moved back to cambridge
iir most of the damage was done to the outlying villages and the colleges ... most were sensible and had their valuable librarys on the higer floors and had pumps (although some broken)
but from what i can recally reading their is an area where some new houses were being built that got alot of damage
thing is this was on the side of a man made riverside wall/road and instead of just going out to the other less defended side it actually rose up the wall and made a fair treck into the road above.

Wouldn't know about the Hull, but I do know that the Don hasn't been dredged since we could finally see the bottom after all the towns and cities up river stopped polluting it with their industrial waste and some rare wildlife returned, so may be thats why?

They need to build on floodplains as we are running out of room!! I dont get it, why are they continuing to build classic '2 floors and a garage' style houses? wouldnt it be better to build new houses raised up, with the car port / garage underneath the house? that way the 'house' would start 12-14 feet above the ground. This would be much less damage in event of a flood, especially if the house was damp & humidity protected too. Of course they should still try everything to STOP it happening in the first place, but this slight change in archetecture can be the 'last defense'

But with all the wood in there, dry rot and woodworm would be a problem (the cost of perventing it for a start ;-).
Yes modern housing is crap, but the state of the building industry in the UK is ... well crap.
By this I mean ...
1) Constructinon is sub-contracted to other trades or managemnt companies (who in turn sub-contract) so there can be a break down in communication between trades.
2) The main contractor has a dead line to keep or will be hit with a penalty clause (how much depends on the project but can be £5,000 - £10,000+ per a day). There's also health and safety (gone mad) which can slow down the build process.
Here's an example of H&S gone mad...
"Firemen when not fighting fires somtimes inspect smoke alarms as part of a fire safety inspection of hotels etc. They are not allowed to use a samll step ladder in case the fall off (they have to use a podium with gardrails), yet they have to use ladders with a 150ft reach to rescue people from burning buildings.
3) Thats means every sub-contracted trade on site will hit with a penalty clause (a sub-contrator can issue a delaying (an extention) order if its another trade thats causing the hold up), so craftman's ship has a habit of going out the window when thing go (and often do) wrong. All problems (snags in the trade) are fixed after the jobs completed or the sub-contractor will not receive final payment (also called a retainer).
4) There's also a shortage of tradesmen, more school leavers are going into office jobs or uni ( there was an article in a paper about a lab worker that quit his(£24,000 I think) job to retrain as a gas-fitter because a self-employed gas-fitter can earn upto £60,000 a year). Which for those that are already in the construction trade means they can basically charge what they like for the time being. Slowly the building trade is being filled with ecconomic immigrants (who can hardly speak English. Another H&S issue here, if you drop something and they are below and they dont understand "HEADS!" then they're bug**red)
5) Houses/flats are built for profit, so it's usually the case of build cheap, sell dear!

Seriously though, before we hijack this thread too much, i dont know of any fluid mechanics for B3D (tried the physics libs?).
However, Blender does have a cool fluid engine and can run simulation programs written in python. Dunno if this is the kind of thing you are after though :/
