game over - what next?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/game over - what next?

Im just curious , but what do you usually make your game do when the player is time over\dead\etc...?

If you have lives and you run out of time or die from damage, I drop the lives and reset the time/health and let the player carry on unless lives=0 in which case they see a game over screen. Maybe on hte game over screen they can enter their name for the high scores. Then it goes back to the title screen.

that's kinda obvouis.. i was hoping for something more creative like a continue or respawn point...

"Insert more coins"

wow, ok now we're just making viruses

You and your friends are dead.

If they die/run out of time on any level above one, then I would make them play from level one again until they get it right

Load the previous save, restart the level entirely, or return to the menu. Also, for God's sake, write using English.

Why English? There are more people on this planet speaking Chinese or Spanish... ;-)

I go away from game and say to me i will never ever play on a NES again :)

Well, you got what you asked for--you didn't exactly specify what type of game you're talking about. Obviously it'll be different for each genre.

What he ^^ said.

What Torrente said and what Big10p said.

weird...

What Torrente said and what Big10p said - but not what Grey Alien said. :-/

Just don't do what BioShock did.....infinite respawns upon death with zero penalty.

ok thanks genexi2
i really hate those kinda games like.... rayman 2

Far from it -- From Wikipedia:

English Language:
First language: 309 – 380 million
Overall: 1.8 billion

Spanish language:
First language 322 - 400 million
Overall: 400–500 million

Chinese Language:
Mandarin: 850 million
Wu (incl. Shanghainese): 90 million
Yue (Cantonese): 80 million
Min (incl. Taiwanese): 50 million
Xiang: 35 million
Hakka: 35 million
Gan: 20 million

So... Fairly close estimates for First Languages between English and Spanish, but if you also consider second languages then English has a 4 to 1 lead over Spanish.
Mandarin Chinese has more 1st language speakers than any other language, but English still beats it 2-to-1 when including people who speak it as a 2nd language.

English is def. the most (widely) spoken, just not natively, making it the most general purpose language.
