Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/How do I get my window profiles back?
Hey all,
It is was my fault for installing the Java when it say it doesnt work then when I restart the computer then half of my folder on desktop is GONE!
How can I get them back?
Also, try right clicking on the desktop and turning off Active Desktop.

I dont know which JAVA I have install because I have check in the CONTROL PANEL( then to add and remove program) and there is no JAVA there
That is ODD!
The restart didn't kick you into "safe mode did it?
The restart didn't kick you into "safe mode did it?
No but what I could do is restart my computer then I write it down on paper on what the window is saying then type it on here...
Be right back soon
First look in "Add and remove programs" and see if theres a J2SE Rintime Enviroment 5.0
Also, try right clicking on the desktop and turning off Active Desktop.
How do I do that?
Right click on desktop > properties > desktop tab > customize desktop > web tab > uncheck all > ok
System Restore? That's the first port of call. If that doesn't work it's looking messy.
Here what the windows say
Windows cannot load your profile because it may be corrupted contact your administrator.
Next one say
Window cannot find local profiles and is logging you on with temporay profiles. Changes you make to this profiles will be lost when you log off.
System Restore as a last resort?
There is no ANY JAVA install on add or remove program for some reason....
lets check your HD files system first
open a command console (Start -> Run and type cmd in the open dialog)
then in the command console type CHKDSK /F it will ask you if you want to schedule a disk check when you restart (can't check a disk when the os is using it)
Press Y and then restart.
Let it do it's thing (It can take a while for big hard drives) when it's done it will restart your computer
I dont have diskdrive on my computer you know :(
"I dont have diskdrive on my computer you know :(" ? Is it network boot ? Are you logged on to a terrminal ?
Is the machine you are running got a Hard Disk drive?
Is it network boot ? I am not sure
Are you logged on to a terrminal ? You mean log on windows when the turn on the computer then it go straight to windows then I type user name or passwords but it doesnt need to as I just press enter to get in window
Is the machine you are running got a Hard Disk drive?
Yes :)
Network boot means "OS is on another computer and is booted from it"
Terrminal has more than one meaning but can be refered to as a computer monitor and keyboard pluged into a computer network.
The above command "CHKDSK /F" will run a scan on the default (C:) hard drive for file system errors and fix them. This command should also be used if you didn't shut down windows correctly.
If the above doesn't work check out these links

PHEWWWWWWWWWWWW !
thank you very much !

I would use a good virus scanner to make sure that you have no hidden nasties on your computer
"Log on as the Administrator or as a user with administrator credentials."
You know when it say LOG on ( did it mean log off on start menu?)
if you are the only user and you can install programs then you already have administrator credentials and that means you are the administrator. And can screw up your computer as much as you like.
