Portal's ending: Spoilers!

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Portal's ending: Spoilers!

The stuff the computer says in this game is really amusing!

But I didn't find the gameplay compelling enough to make it past level 15 or so. I think there's like 100 levels?

I couldn't take that much portal hopping!

Anyway, the ending music to this game is a stroke of genius!

I need a t-shirt which says simply "The cake is a lie."

There are only 19 levels, plus a bit of a longer diversion at the end. Worth playing through to the end to where you finally encounter the AI - like you said, the speech is really funny, especially towards the end.

The bit after the 19 training levels is completely different. Feels like the original Half-Life. The final boss fight is brilliantly engineered, as well. Very well worth it!
All the mid-air portal making and high-speed flying through the air (with that excellent rushing air sound) has this game doing a better job of that super hero feel than any super hero game out there!

There is a fascinating amount of detail gone in to the voice work, too; I don't think I heard a single voice twice, either from those (ingenious) turrets or from GLaDOS. Even jumping through again for the commentary, there were all kinds of little details to hear.
*SPOILER* I particularly like how those emotion regulators all have their own voices, and talk to you over top of GLaD's own voice. Hard to make it all out, but it's really funny.

Portal has the best ending credits I have ever seen (or heard). Ever. The first time music from a video game has been stuck in my head...

wooot. Beat it in 2.5 hours, one sitting. I died like 5 times. Yes the ending is supreme.

That song's great. For any of you who want to play along, the chords (which I just quickly figured out using 'Jam Sessions' on the DS!) are as follows:

D Bm D Bm D Bm D Bm
Em A
D Bm D Bm D Bm D Bm D Bm D Bm
Em A F
F C Bb F
F C Bb F
Bb C F Dm
Bb A7
D Bm D Bm etc

Apparently its by a guy called Jonathan Coulton - http://www.jonathancoulton.com/

Edit - Its well worth checking out some of his other songs. Try 'Code Monkey' and 'Re: Your Brains' for starters :)

Ever. The first time music from a video game has been stuck in my head...
Hah. For me that was "Great Mighty Poo" from Conkers BFD. To this day I occasionally catch myself humming along...

My daughter just ended Portal. She downloaded the song (thanks sswift) found the lyrics (thanks google), noted the accords (thanks JoeGr) and she'll be performing the song at her music lessons at school.

Jonathan Coulton, wasn't he the one who made a very naughty song about frolicking in May?

Great game, worth completing as the last bits were quite decent, and you do get the cake. ;)

It's too short, and not really worth a purchase by itself, but then again you probably wouldn't want 20 hours of portals. And yep the ending music is genius :)
