Midnight tonight. Everyone ready?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Midnight tonight. Everyone ready?

I've got Episode 2 and Portal Pre-loaded and ready go at the stroke of midnight.

Who's with me?!?!?!?

Yeah!!!

But I can't decide which to play first.

Ooooh - touching-nora!

I forgot about this.

yeah, same here, probably play half an hour of portal, then half hour of Episode two. Then bed.

Thank god I've got nothing on tomorrow night after work so I've got the whole evening free.

(Incase anyone's wondering, yes I do have a girlfriend, and no this isn't a problem as she'll be playing an MMORPG)

I hate to break this to you, but it's not midnight everywhere on earth at the same time. :-)

The game will be released at the stroke of midnight... Pacific time.

That's 3am for me, and 8am for London.

eh?

That's not fair.

Still, by the time I get to download it, hopefully the rush will be over.

Just watch the servers start failing :)

But I can't decide which to play first.

The decision for me is easy. Episode 2!

If the servers didn't fail due to the TF2 beta where everyone was loading and reloading steam constantly and everyone was downloading the final patches near simultaneously, I doubt they'll fail for Episode 2.

Pre-loader shows a countdown timer until game is unlocked if that helps anyone.

18 hours to go!

OMFG!!!! WTF! those b#st#@ds!!!!!!! THAT'S IT!!!! WHERE'S MY F#K@NG REFUND!!!!! /SMASHES MOUSE INTO WALL

I'M BUSY THURSDAY NIGHT!!!!!!!

Guess I'll just have to play TF2 then.

I live in the UK incase anyone's in any doubt.

You can play it Wednesday night then.

Midnight Wednesday for Valve is 3am Wednesday for me, and 8am Wednesday for you. Which means you'll have all evening tomorrow to play it if you have to work 9 to 5.

I didn't want to say anything. :-)

Or all day Wednesday infact after 8Am

It would seem H&K and I are the only ones here who understand the concept of time. :-)

If its not in Milli, software engineers have no chance.

Wednesday 0 Milli Pacific Time
Wednesday 28800000 Milli BST

Delta Pacific Time to BST = -288800000 Milli
Hence Wednesday 0 Milli Pacific Time = Wednesday 28800000 Milli BST

Im reminded of that Kids story of the King who would go round his castle at 8Am setting all his clocks to 8am. Who would then be very supprised when all but the first one chimed MidDay at the wrong time.
(The Kings Wizard solved the Problem by inventing the wrist watch)

Do we need to activate a stream account?

I stand corrected. Sorry, long day at work today, brain's not with it. I'll play it wednesday night. (need more coffee today).

4hr30min to go, and while I'm here doing my homework, Sswift is apparently enjoying himself in TF2. ;/

I got to say though, I love Steam's built-in friend system, makes it cake to see who's on, what game, and what server. Joining in with your buds is cake.
(now if only the damn Steam community pages didn't use bloody internet explorer)

Makes the system almost on-par with Xbox Live!, problem is that Steam still gets stupid and hogs your CPU for obscure reasons to display one page...., whatever happened to lowering prioritzation on an APP so your PC doesn't completely bog down when it needs to process something?

Happy:
Yes you need to have a steam account.

Genexi:
I just quit, I think I'll try to get three hours of sleep. :-)

I don't have many problems with Steam, but one thing it does muck up is playing Quicktime media. Makes all the sound choppy.

WARNING!!!! It has to decrypt the files before you can play the games!
I had to wait ten minutes for portal to decrypt before I could play it. And so far I've been waiting twenty five minutes for episode two, and it's only on 38% That's rubbish! I may have to leave to go to work before it finishes. This sucks.

Good lord... I didn't realise people got this excited about playing a game... You're all like little school girls!

Calm down, step back... It's a game.

What can I say, I got sucked in by the hype. I will say this though, I get more excited by a game release than a new movie, simply because I get more more involved in a game than a film.

P.S. I've played the first five minutes of both games now, and can say they're both very good.

Even movies aren't worth getting all worked up for... I want to see Iron Man when it comes out but I'm buggered if I'm going to queue up or wait until midnight to be one of the first to see it... sod that... who cares?

Get excited about your girlfriend in fantastic underwear or driving an exige around a test track or something... Something real (so by girlfriend I don't mean that 'girl' you chat to on MSN)

I bet Rob never got excited at christmas, and taunted all the other kids at school for it. :-)

Oh btw, I said screw waitinf for Valve to unlock it and just went to bed. It's not like I was going to be all antsy waiting for it when I was asleep and this way I'm not playing it while tired. :-)

Whelp, Episode #2 clearly tops #1, and I'm only half-way through it!

Shame that Portalâ„¢ is so damn short, a measly 2 hours for the main campaign, well, least there's always the meaningless achievements and the bonus missions to go through once my stomach settles....

I'm rather curious how they will go about custom maps for the XBox 360 version of TF2. If that doesn't happen, the 360 version will be very unfortunate :(

Finished! Episode 2 gives you about 8 hours of gameplay.

I can't finish the last level on portal! It's doing my head in. Time for a break.

I just completed portal! It was really good. Now need to unlock more achievements!

Portal deserves a reward for its ending-credits sequence...

So, how good is Episode2?

They say:

/agree with portal end sequence. It's not often I'll laugh outloud at a game, but that was classic, I want the MP3 of it. Actually, it might be on youtube.

So, how good is Episode2?

The first half is a bit lame. A real feeling that you've done all this before, and that you're constantly being diverted from the main plotline to complete dopy sidequests, much like Episode 1. The second half on the other hand is much better ( so far ) and gets back to the better parts of the original HalfLife2 ( not Ep1, the real original ) and the reviews are right when they say that - in gameplay - it can still do what the so-called superior engines cannot. You'd be hard pressed not to enjoy it, even if the first half is a bit tiresome. Even in the first half, there's good AI, believable characters and the usual smattering of physics puzzles.

Are the tunnels good? I wasn't this fond of the parallel universe in HL but when i watch some screens then these are the ones which i want to play.

The tunnels are not to my taste. For me, the game is at it's best in the expansive forest scenes, either on foot or in vehicle. I also much prefer fighting the combine soldiers or the big giant stalky things to fighting antlions and acidlions, but there's nothing inherently inferior about the tunnels. The level design is still good, there's still some interesting physics puzzles, there are still some great scripted pieces, so if it's your thing, I can't think you wouldn't enjoy it.

At some point when there is time i'll definately buy it and hopefully finish it. I really had to force my self playing through E1 but as everyone says that it's better than E1 this shouldn't happen.
