Anyone know happens to your games when steam shuts down? Maybe if valve went bankrupt or whatever.
Is there any way to backup games you've downloaded over steam?
Also, has anyone tried submitted a blitz game to steam, what response did you get?

- If Valve went bankrupt, which is very unlikely due to the juggernaught of popularity Steam is riding on, I imagine that the network and content hosting would be bought up by a third party.
- You can backup your games to disk, yes, just by right-clicking them in your games list. I've never bothered. If I reinstall Windows, I just get Steam to download all the games I'm interested in again.
- Not sure about indie publishing, I think the general verdict would be send it to Valve for review. I imagine they get hundreds of submissions every month from Indies wanting to use it as a launchpad, but very few seem to get through (e.g. Roboblitz, Ragdoll Kung Fu)

- No, you need Steam client to download from Steam. You don't need to enter any credit card details to install Steam and download demos, only when you want to buy games from the store that is integrated into the client.

Yep. You can even do this with games you buy on CD, if they're steam editions. IE: HalfLife2, Sin Episodes, HL Episodes, etc. Which is nice if you put the CD cases away somewhere and don't want to have to dig them all out when you reinstall Windows.
If Valve goes bankrupt, you'll be able to put all your steam games on the shelf next to your copy of the Shadow of Yserbius.
