Yeah, I prefer Courier, too. Having said that, I just stick with the default font with Blitz3D.
Most of the alternatives are ugly, but I would agree with the author that Consolas is very nice. It's not a million miles away from Courier New though, is it? Just perhaps a teeny bit heavier.
Well, Courier is a serif font (Consolas is sans serif), which I prefer, for some reason. Maybe I've just got used to it over the years...
I changed to Consolas a while back after a similar thread about programming fonts. I really like it. Courier is horrid as it's a serif font as Big10p points out.
Fixedsys ftw. However, loads of IDEs don't support it, as it's not a TTF font. But you can get a TTF version of it.
Good article, thanks for the pointer, andy_mc. "Font of the Gods" is too close to Comic Sans - I'd end up digging my eyes out with a spoon if forced to use it. I currently use Courier New (14 pt at 1680x1050), but Vera Sans Mono and Lucida Typewriter look decent enough - maybe I'll give them a spin.
"Font of the Gods" is Comic Sans. I think he calls it that as a joke
Ah, thanks, H&K - I just clicked on that link. Good, he's not insane <g>. I used to work as a graphic designer, and every time we'd get a doc set in C**** S*** it'd make my skin crawl. That and Papyrus.

Arial. Times New Roman. Two common fonts NEVER to be used in an IDE. I mean, seriously. Yuck.
I think the real thing here is that for programming, where code files need to be read quickly and efficiently, non-TrueType fonts are extremely helpful, visually speaking. Interestingly enough, when I program in Blitz, I use the Blitz font, but if I do C++, I use Courier New. Go figure.
On the flip side, if you want to really freak out your friends, you could try something like this... XD

Thing is Comic Sans has been shown to help a very high proportion of people with pattern recognition problems, (ie Dyslexics), and that its easier for them to read. (Not everyone, because "pattern recognition problems" is a big catchall)
I personnaly use Comic Sans in Vertual Studio, and only dont use it in BLide becase of the stupid no fixed Tab sizing introduced in 0.7.
It looks stupid/childish to everyone else simply because its too easy to read, and your mind connects this "Run, spot Run" simplcity with learning/childhood.
