Reg scanners

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Reg scanners

I have been trying to find a free reg fix'er'up'er but i have spent ages hinder'ed by 100% free to download Regscanners that are 100 % free to download, you just cant use them for free once you download them. Nice trick that one, I will have to remember not to use it.

As soon as my computer gets to the stage where you have to monkey in the registry I think it's time to format c:\ and rebuild.

Just consider the time you've spend farting around trying to find a registry cleaner, downloading, installing, and ironically screwing the registry even more in the process.

It gets to a point quite quickly that a format and rebuild takes a lot less time than maintenance!

I agree with Rob, unless you really know what your doing you may just make it worse. Its an unfortunate sideefect of the "windows gene" (progressive file/reg-clutter and progressive slowness). I find i need to reformat/rebuild my win pc at least once every 6-8 months (as by this time its unbearable!!) to get it working full speed , which really grinds (considering a FULL rebuild can take several days when you suddely realise you need certain progs/seettings that are not there). Ghost is quite good for this, if you get your pc just right you can save an image of it, which speeds thing up, except you cannot change your PC config at all, otherwise it back to old mr XP disk.

Yeah that annoys the hell out of me too. It should be against trading standards or something. Its like a sign saying this can of beans is toally FREE!.. [verysmallprint]to put in your basket.[/verysmallprint]
No wonder the internet is grinding to a halt with crap like this.

I was getting suitable pissed off, It must be an attempt to block any "real" free stuff from ranking at google

Im having DLL Hell, Bmax and purebasic lock my PC, C++ express built stuff runs fine

A Bmax full screen demo works but any windows displayed locks my computer.

All applications run fine on my computer, just those mentioned cause lockups

It is of course caused by my OS being molested by some installed crap

I use RegCleaner, which was totally free once upon a time, then the guy upgraded the software and newer versions weren't free anymore...

Would there be legal implications if I linked the old free version? I suspect so since the download completely vanished from the net which is a sign of pretty thorough search and request-remove....

Works wonders for me- never had a problem at all with it! but dont just go deleting everything, make *sure* that what it detects is correct first as its a computer and will not get it 100% correct 100% of the time :-)

@puki

LOL that was free! NOT LOL

me thinks you didnt read thread

Have you tried PageDefrag?

Microsoft already have that installed for me, it runs at startup, does totally nothing to registery

I think the problem is one of the DLL's used by BlitzMax has been modified by a recently installed software.

It is highly likely such a simple fault can be repaired without a re-install

Yeah kindda thought saying that was a bad idea :D

What's wrong with my list?

The bulk of them are Freeware.

The two most popular Freeware ones are RegScrub and RegCleaner. I recommend RegScrub. Personally, I use Registry Mechanic with is not Freeview.
