Have I been missing something. I saw that trailer months ago. And after Cars, I'm not too excited over another pixar movie.

The graphics are very nice, but dreamworks have caught up, and TBH some game cutscenes (i.e. WoW), are much more impressive.

Bah, Pixar & Dreamworks, two companies that are killing the industry I'm currently enrolled in college to get into, traditional animation.

Anyways, how was Ratatouille anyhow? Wanted to see it (watched a 10min preview of it once, loved the rats-eye view of the world), but time constraints in the real world prevented that. Hopefully it'll be on DVD soon.

Its out on October 12th - something like that.

er... I saw this like a month or two ago? Is the release of movies really that delayed in the UK?

Whaaaat? They haven't released Ratatouille in the UK yet?! I saw it June 29th.

Wouldn't be surprised to see it out on DVD this month actually. Definitely be out before Xmas.

Ratatouille is a great movie, you'll love it. I went out and bought myself a good set of kitchen knives, utensils, and pans after watching it. I really needed em anyway though cause the ones I had were old and banged up and cheaply made and I watch cooking shows like Iron Chef and Good Eats, and wanted to encourage myself to cook more and eat out less.

Now I just need to move into an apartment which actually has a diswasher or a sink I can fit more than one plate in, and which has more than three square feet of counter space, and a stove on which you can fit more than two pans, and an oven where I don't have to monitor the temperature with a thermometer the entire time something cooks and set the knob to a much lower temp than I actually want because it is wildly inaccurate. :-)

There'll always be a need for traditional animation. Even if it's not for movies. In games for instance. Failing that, you could always move to Japan. :-)

No - UK films usually get released here first...

I dont know why it takes so long really - there's no dubbing needed...

Games was one of the areas I'm looking at, still a need for concept artists and character designers, albeit I personally look more towards actual page-flipping animation, rather than being a supporter of 3d works (or doing both myself).........and regarding Japan, well, last I checked, they are a bit biased against non-natives with regards to job opportunities involving most stuff, that and I doubt I could afford to live there at any rate either.


Are cinema flicks shipped to all of Europe? I always figured the extra time was needed to translate it into French and German to cover the primary spoken languages.

You know, considering the amount of detail shown off in Puki's linked image up there, I'd probably drop a few bucks for an HD-DVD-rom drive if it ever gets released on it, I don't think 480p will do this film justice.

Not only do we get films late in the UK, but it'll probably cost us more to watch it.

I can put a big hole in £50 ($100) if me and she-who-must-be-fed go to watch a flick.

It used to be much worse, with pretty much any movie release many months behind in Europe. These days at least the blockbusters get released simultaneously (presumably to reduce missed box office income due to internet piracy)

I dunno they are pumping out one after the other but somehow they aren't really touching me. Toy Story and The Incredibles were the best films they've made so far. The rest was more or less cute but not really exciting, too much Disney like. Same for their shorts, i've never seen another genius short like KnickKnack again.

Anyway did i already mention that Pixar made an agreement with Luxology for technology exchange and it looks like we'll see some Renderman stuff in Modo in the future?! :O)

They have different release dates - France is 8 July, and Germany is 3 October. Even the Chinese get it way before us :(

I presume negotiations between the the distributors and cinema people must take a long time...

From what I understand the staggered release dates is so the performers can do the media circus to plug it on every talk show in every country, attend the premiers all over the world etc etc.

The irony of course is that over here in the UK (if it's an American movie) you can often buy the DVD from the states before the movie theatres are actually showing it, and you can certainly download it (if you're that way inclined)

There's more to films than the quality of the subsurface scattering and texturemaps.....

When I start judging cartoon movies solely on their photorealism, I hope someone verbally smacks me in the face for it!

And that aside, the animation, rendering, character expressions, animation and the animation were spectacular in this film. Technically speaking, Pixar's at their best.

And it was fun to watch.

Cars had wonderful lightning but the story just wasn't good.

It's about $16 for two to go to the cinema here, and there are no seperate luxury seating arrangements like they have back home in the UK. Sounds like IMAX theaters here cost about the same as regular cinema's over there.

We loved Ratatouille (and by we I mean my fiance and I)

After watching it we came home and fixed a large dinner! It does make you want to cook.
