HL2 or MP2

Quick vote, which is better Half Life 2, or Max Payne 2?

(PS, Why is Deus Ex 2 soooooo bad, cos the first one was at least on a par with HL, if not better)

Half Life 2

Half Life 2, obviously. It has good AI, varied level design, a coherent ( if somewhat banal ) plot, decent characters and a visual style which fits the totalitarian theme very well.

Max Payne 2 wasn't sufficiently different to Max Payne 1, wasn't varied, and while the whole Mickey Spillane does comic books style of the piece was a nice idea, it's not very well executed in my opinion.

PS I actually really enjoyed Deus Ex 2. It's not the greatest game in the world, but it ticked all the boxes for me. I've never really understood why it got such a hard time. Perhaps that's because I didn't enjoy Deus Ex 1 very much, so it had infinitely less to live up to for me.

Half-Life 2, but I almost cry every time I get through Max Payne 2 which is also is great game in my opinion... The best of Sam Lake so far...

I prefer Max Payne 2 myself. I didn't play HL1 till about 2001 and never got into it really. When HL2 came out I hated the demo because of ravensholm? being rubbish. With the full game, once I got bored of the physics it was just another doom like game.

I prefered FarCry, F.E.A.R, Riddick, and Splintercell 1 & 4? and even ageing Max Payne 2. Thought Bioshock was ok, got tired of it in Arcadia and havent touched it in quite a while.

HL2 rocks

Without any doubts HL2 because it has the better story, more interesting scenario, insane well done sound design, ... It just looks and feels so much better. You can watch so many criminal/mafia stuff but a resonable SF game or movie is much rarer. The two points which speak for MP2 are the bullet time and the copy protection but in the end they don't really count as HL2 has so much more to offer. MP2 was a very good game but just not as outstanding as HL2.

Shooters i've enjoyed in no specific order were: HL1+2, System Shock1+2, Far Cry, Nolf1+2, Doom3, MP2, Red Faction,...

OOh NOLF, I loved that one, wished Bioshock had taken some inspiration from that. Was really nice to have some humour in a FPS instead of going for the usual zombies and gore, trying to be creepy and shock tactics. Didn't care for NOLF 2 though :(

I tend to just not like the FPS that are little more than a camera with a gun stuck in front.

In a whole NOLF was better but NOLF2 still was a very good game which had some great levels. The clowns or the arctic station with the scary soldier. I really was scared there...

The arctic station felt a lot like THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD; it was very well done and the most atmospheric part of the game, I just loved it.

Yes right. Ahhh i really was afraid of this mutant soldier and tried my best not beeing found by him...wonderful level design and a great character.

from graphical aspect HL2. just saw some pics of MP2 and rather GTA-SA like gfx

HL2 would be even better if it had body parts flying around when explosions occurred, but then it would have been rated 18

I thought HL2 was better, the first time I played them both, but I think Id rather play MP2 again rather than HL2.

Yeah, come to think of it I've played HL2 through around 3 times, while I play MP2 once every half a year or so...

Except for the ending was WEAK! (i dont mean the 'episode' addons which i havent played yet)

I han't played HL2 yet, but I can say that MP2 was really good.

Won't ever play HL2 because of steam, but MP2 is one of my all-time favorites. Good story, and really brings you in like playing a good movie.

half-life 2 is great, can't beat HL 1 though. Deus Ex 2 was really screwed up, but valve didn't make the same mistake they did. never played MP2 though. True though, ravenholm was just mean (hence, my sig) :(. The rest of the game is awesome still, now is a great time to get HL2, with the orange box, you get portal, TF2, and all the HL2 games (including EP1 and EP2). Steam can be a facist at times, but you get used to it after a while :)
