New GP2X
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/New GP2X If I would ever get anything portable that would be it...
Awesome. Touch screen means it'll rock for ScummVM. Also good they replaced that horrible joystick controller on the old one.
Anyone wanna buy my old GP2X? :P

I think that if I wanted a handheld device it would something like a UMPC. I think that the GP2X is a good product for the price, however I'm more into a complete and powerful package like a UMPC.
I need to buy another GP2X!
I'm a complete noob regarding handhelds. So bear with me.. :P
-> Can this thing run BMax?

Not unless BRL decides to add ARM support to their compiler, which so far has only had a list of people supporting the proposal. Nothing has been done yet.
Ordered mine last month...
Bleh, it's iWhite.
Now that looks nice....
I was considering the older version, but I think I'm sold on the new one :D

Looks interesting on a first view, it only lacks on the video side as there is no support for h.264 or on2vp6.

you can hook up peripherals, keyboard etc.... hmm wonder if you can compile C on it ?

Hmm it really would be fun developing your own little games with BlitzMax for such a device.
Equally fun as creating small map editors for it, so you can create your game's maps while traveling in the train/bus/bigbird/carbackseat/titanic.
Actually i'm not this experienced in travelling with titanics but i would love to play just lying in my bed.

I think the dev kit is C, but I know that someone has managed to get freepascal cross compiling to it.
The Bloodshed Dev Kit (which is free, of course), is a C compiler, and aside from a few bugs with it, is very good.
I like New GP2X as I guess it play all mame and amiga games on it too......

I'm not sure what this has to do with working on the GP2X. It lets you write programs for it - it compiles to Windows code AND (and this is the clever bit), for the GP2X
I have had a program ready to run on it for a while now - just had no machine to try it on...

yeah, didn't think bloodshed would run on GP2X, my c compile of choice has been Code warrior 6, but I'm being tempted by Viz Studio...
I wouldn't mind seeing how my Amiga applications that I wrote would work on GP2X. Yep, still got my miggy set up in the loft. hasn't has trons through it in a while.... might give it a whirl this weekend. Thinking about it my homegrown hardware used to interface via the joystick port. joy.

Hmm, I'm wondering how well a Pocket PC game would even do... After all, if I could design a game that fits on a 2GB SD Card with my Dell Axim x30, then we may be on to something.
Of course, the GP2X being a handheld geared towards gaming, then I'm wondering if that would even be a better trade off than going with a Pocket PC game at all?

Hmmm, my app used 1200 by 512 resolution on the miggy 1200, can run at lower rez....
My god, I can almost envisage developing on my miggy again the the original BLitz 2.1 for GP2X, Hmmm just need that elusive timethingy.

If your using SDL, it should be no problem.
If you've trying to convert from Mobile DirectDraw to SDL, it'll be an interesting challenge...

No, I'm pretty sure you're thinking of Gamepark's own customized version of Dev-C++ and GCC compiler. Its a modified Bloodshed development system (4.9.9.2), well, the IDE is anyway.
Its a shame its not being updated any more.
