What Blitz games are you still playing?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/What Blitz games are you still playing?

Do you still pull out your copy of Platypus, or maybe fire up a round of GridWars? I still play GridWars and BulletCandy quite a bit.

Naked War
Tank Universal
Master of Defense

All absolutely brilliant games that deserve a far wider audience (especially NW).

Was just playing GridWars for 35 minutes then it crashed on me, losing my new highscore, oh well ;-)

The only games I play these days are peoples 'works in progress' either on this site or gamedev.net (not blitz but much the same...). Usually they allow me to get straight to the game without all the garbage usually associated with a finished product - flashy intro screens/options menus/settings/tutorials/installation procedures/registrations

SUAVE - ocassionally

Plob

Platipus
Joystick Johnny (and occasionally other Joe Lesko games)
And sometimes I download other stuff and play through again... Depends on my mood I guess...

Master of Defense! (i think thats a blitz game)
Bullet Candy Rocks!
and Ninjah is great too

Hole in One.

Blainiac Strikes Back

Easter Bonus now and again and Joystick Johnny.

Platypus I find far too frustrating, so I uninstalled it last time it pi**ed me off.

Best Friends!

Ninjah a class game. I played skidmarks on the amiga last week does that count?

Battlefield 2 is the game i waste to much time on.

Whoa, wait, Ninjah was made in Bmax?

To think I wasted a few hours of my life last month playing that not knowing. o.O

I play my own game "Rocket Mission" from time to time, it's brilliant IMHO :o)

I used play TOP SPIN(Dart game) which was good game but it would even better if was DART Online game :)

Platypus - it is hard though.
I never got round to playing master of defense, I'm sure it's good.
I often have a little blast on new showcase games but I never play them again after that.

Also I play my own games in development of course :-)

Control Monger

Hmm the last i've played were still the same: Kaboom, Gridwars2 and Sudoku Live. I don't enjoy Sudoku but i was forced to...

What does this all tell us about what we are doing right or wrong with our blitz games? I would've thought maybe more people would've said that they play blitz games.

Good point, I was thinking the same. It seems clear that Blitz programmers (mainly) like retro games or modern shooter type games. There aren't many finished modern shooter type games in Blitz, and the large majority of retro games are somewhat "throwaway". The Blitz games that are played again by people seem to be finished commercial titles that made it out there and also some of the more accomplished free retro-style games.

Also there really aren't that many Blitz games compared to console games, other casual games and mainstream big budget PC games, so the likelihood of anyone playing a Blitz game regularly is fairly low...

That's my analysis so far ;-)

Grey Alien say Platypus - it is hard though.

I agree but it is rewarding when you finished it :)

What does this all tell us about what we are doing right or wrong with our blitz games?

I think it probably tells us we should be very careful when evaluating feedback from this community. Technical issues, and bugs are something you can get help with from anywhere, but finetuning gameplay and visual appearance elements could be tricky when - apparently - the community does not count itself among our core audience.

Well, I'm waiting until I get my desktop built up before going back into Blitz games. A lot of the newer ones may not even work on my laptop that much at all... Sort of like dead-end configuration on here, and getting to being almost a two-year old Dell Inspiron. Nothing more modern may even work on here. Definitely gonna hold out until at least the holiday seaon on something.

Joystick Jonny, great diversity and simply great fun.

I think I miss Amiga games, so many games nowadays somehow just don't have an extra special something that really makes you want to sit there and play them for a long period of time. Too much programmer-graphics, perhaps. Maybe it's just hard to make things that polished. I see a lot of game projects which seem so `affected` by current trends and wannabe copycats.

Hmm i think it strongly depends on your habits, the platform and the genres you're enjoying. I personally enjoy still emulated stuff, adventures and a few new pearls which are released each year. Beside of then making and playing my own games i don't have more time to play, this makes me selective and so i only play what i'm really after which eliminates 99% of the Blitz stuff.

If a Blitzgame would show up with a really nice gameidea and good gameplay i would buy it, especially if it was for the mac but beside of Gridwars2 which is free and Inca Quest which lacked a easy childmode i have't seen such a game here. Maybe such games exist but i then don't know them.

Secondly i doubt that it's about polishment only. If there would be a game with a great idea and gameplay then i would also buy/play it, also if it came along just with programmer art as long as i can life with the style. Actually if you're standing in a computer store in front of console games you'll notice quickly that over 90% of the games, no matter if they are plished or not, look just boring and not like fun to play too.

This world somehow has more than enough games. (at least bad - average good ones)

Platypus !!!
