Halflife 2 finale... is this it?

I finally blew the dust of halflife 2 to complete the final level (citadel) and i gotta say im a little peeved :(

Got this COOL gravity gun mk2 and everything was super impressive, making me think there has gotta be some super cool boss waiting at the end... And what do i get? 2 helicopters and a bunch of balls to throw at some rotating portal thingy, which i did first time without even dying!!! (thinking about it, i did the whole level only dying twice on normal mode) Then it all blew up (presumably killing the hot chick and destroying the city i have just spent the last 4 days trying to defend) then the wierd G-man person comes out and basically says 'thanks a lot' and chucks me back in stasis!

Please say there is some kind of alternative ending and i screwed it up otherwise its going on my 'special' pile of DVDs next to Freddy goes to hell, Matrix3 and Alien V Predator, which i am intending one day to use as clay pigeons.

The start of Episode 1 is "Alyx" and "Dog" digging you out of the rubble of the Citadel.

Humph, i dont mind paying for the next chapter, but i at least expected a decent boss at the end of such a good game, not some dodgy ex-boss and his dark warp core doodad (grumble grumble)

Sure, Episode 1 is good, and Episode 2 will be out in a month or so.

Episode 2 looks like it'll be better than Episode 1, but Episode 1 is still a lot of fun. If you like zombies, you'll get a lot of that in Episode 1.

Episode 1's ending is a lot more interesting, in my opinion. I wasn't expecting much of an ending from it, personally, since at that point I knew they would be continuing the storyline from that point. If it was a grand climax of some sort, the next part would have one of those really cheesy "Oh no, they came back to life!" moments. That doesn't excuse the fact that the boss was unexciting, mind.

Anyway, explosions are fun :)

He he! Felt exactly the same way when I played it - talk about anti-climax.

I got frustrated with episode 1 in the multistory carpark with the silly insect things. Still never was a HL fan and only got half way through the main game anyway. Maybe if you liked the original game you will like the later episodes too.

Do I like zombies? Hell yeah, Dawn of the Dead (the original) is my all-time favourite film. I take it they're Scottish zombies, then?

with episode two coming out soon, I'm going to replay through episode one again, there are some really good bits in it that really get your heart racing. And you don't want to play episode two without seeing episode one, you get the first one with episode two anyway, so you'd be a fool not too.

But yes, agree with the ending of HL2, bit of a let down. And too easy.

Careful Winni - I may start testing you. Bet I have seen it more times than you :) Nothing like a good, character driven zombie movie!

Yep. The problem is that I've seen the dubbed german version more than 100 times (that's when I stopped counting); that basically was the european Argento cut. I've also seen the 156 minutes german extended version quite often. It's based upon the Argento cut, but includes also footage from the american theatrical cut, the director's cut and some raw material that wasn't in either "official" version. It's the longest (and best) version of the movie, unfortunately it does not exist in an undubbed american english version. Oh, and of course I've also seen both the Argento and the Romero director's cut version in original english a couple of times.

But for the testing: Who plays the director in the TV show in the beginning of the movie? :)

By the way, did you see Shaun Of The Dead? Shaun, the guy who works at the FOREE TV shop? Now who's Ken Foree? :)))

I also liked Romero's DAY OF THE DEAD (in the uncut version). LAND OF THE DEAD could have been better (and longer).

I will take a look into some of those questions for entertainment, but I can't answer any off the top of my head. I think the version I have is the director's cut. I though this had everything except the shotgun blast to the zombie's head in 107, which didn't bother me, because those early scenes are inferior, IMO, to the main part in the mall. So what scenes am I missing, compared with this German version? I may just have to pick it up.

Honestly I despise Day of the Dead, and all I can say about Land is that it's okay. The 90s remake of Night, by Savinni, however is pretty damn good.

The interesting thing is that the Director's Cut has --less-- gore and splatter in it than the more than 20 minutes --shorter-- Argento/European Cut, and it has a different soundtrack. Argento used more of the music by Goblin and in general made the movie harder and colder than Romero, who instead wanted to give it more of a cartoon flair. I "grew up" with the Argento version, so naturally I like it better. (I also still prefer the theatrical version of Blade Runner to its director's cut version, by the way.)

In the Netherlands they sell a nice double DVD edition with both the american director's cut and the european Argento cut on it (both in English). Unfortunately, only the director's cut is in 16:9 format on it, the other movie's in 4:3. Cut them both together, and you pretty much have it. :)

The ultra long german version actually came from Austria and was illegal(!) in Germany. You will have a problem getting it, since only a few boxes had been produced. They are no selling a new long version again in Germany, but it cannot be the real thing because it is already available for age 16+, and that means it has been "edited".

Day Of The Dead has its moments. Especially in the beginning, when the helicopter flies over the "dead" city and you see A CAR DRIVING in the lower left corner of the screen. ;-) But, honestly, I just love the opening sequence of that movie. It's a bit similar to the opening of THE OMEGA MAN with Charlton Heston - as dead as it gets. :)

How did you like the 2004 DAWN remake? (With "Roger" as the army colonel on TV and "Peter" as the TV preacher in it, by the way.)

And one other thing: Has anybody ever played the Dawn Of The Dead adventure game back in the 80s? I was never able to get it, but it must be based upon the movie and rumor has it that it was very buggy, but otherwise a must for the fans. I would love to see it.

The original characters appearing in the Dawn remake weren't lost on me. I actually think this is one of the few decent remakes out there. It's not up there with the original, but it's not bad and puts a slightly different twist on the idea. e.g: Fast zombies.

I agree the first scene in Day of the Dead was tremendous. It's a shame it went to pot after that. I don't know what Argento's obsession with zombies getting smart is, but it spoils the whole thing for me.

I have played DoD on an Amstrad emulator and I can point you in the direction of it if you want. Personally, I couldn't get into it. There's an Amiga version which should be more colourful. It's not a great game, but worth a look for fans.

Somtimes the big baddy boss, is just a shitty bloke in a suit, who wouldnt know how to use power armour if you hit him on the head with it.

The HL2 ending is supposed to ; supprise you ; make you see what an arse the g-man is.

And it did supprise you, cos you were expecting some end of level boss.

What the hell is GMan anyway, the first one gives you no clue and kind of thought he was some creepy FB(C)IA sort. The second one offers no pearls of wizdom either. I am guessing by now he is some sort of alien or something be-cause hhe ta-lks fu-u-nny, who is he working for? the nilinth (or whatever) is dead and he doesnt seem to like the combine much either. ARGHH!! too many questions... need answers... where do i get the rest of the damn game! :/
