character skinning tutorial?

I cant seem to find any tutorials for doing character textures on the net.
I can only find beginners tutes for layers, or environment textures.
psionics website helps a little bit but doesnt go into enough detail.
Or maybe a book would be a better idea?

It's not very detailed, but this was posted recently on one of the forums I frequent. ( Probably TV, but I'm not 100% sure. )
