Your coding hours

what kind of hours do you keep?
I get about 1 during the day if I am lucky.
Then at night usually zero.
On weekends about 3 hours.
I do it for a living so technically it should be around 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. But since I am doing it for a living, I've come to the conclusion that I don't like coding for other people (US Government) and so my actuall amound of work dwindles down to about 4-5 hours a day while the rest of the time I spend screwing off on surfing and forums like this :p
lol @ Neuro - a refreshingly honest answer!
I squeeze in an hour or so in the evening, but sometimes go days without coding. If I'm really into something then I can spend 5 - 10 hours over the weekend. It depends on my mood / energy levels as much as anything.
I code at work for about 8-9 hours a day, by the time I get home I rarely can be bothered, so I get maybe 4 hours a week at home.
I code at work... 6am til 3pm, and for my hour lunch, I tend to code Max... then it's usually 3-4+ hours in the evenings... and much of the weekend.
Monday's off at the moment, so that's a whole day I can devote to Module work, in between doing stuff around the flat.
:-)
My coding hours just went to zero due to Team Fortress 2.
Depends on the stage of the project (game in my case), i.e. Early enthusiam, Middle Slog, Final Crazy Push :-)
Right now I'm in the 3rd stage but I'm managing to keep hours reasonable not crazy.
So like should be 9-6 with lunch = 9 hours but I invariable fart around until about 10am. Sometimes I take mini breaks that get a bit longer. Lunch sometimes is at the computer so not long, other times I go in the garden or whatever. Probably a good average is 7 hours. Also at the moment I end up checking and replying to emails from team members later in the evening (they are in the US, I'm in the UK) and that can take a while then sometimes I do some code based on the emails (like plugging in graphics). So anything from 0-3 hours in the evening. Also at the weekends I've been doing from 0 to around 10 hours (according to my logs). So let's add that up, minimum 35 but can easily be 50+ hours. However, I'm taking it semi easy compared to Holiday Bonus which I worked 12+ hour days most days including the weekends for about 5 weeks.
Included in the "coding" umbella is: research, planning, to do lists, coding, plugging in graphics, sounds, cimmunicating with team members, making releases, testing etc. Actual "coding" time is lots less due to all the other stuff.
On the Amiga I would code for 6+ hours - pretty much daily and that was sometimes all day and night on Saturdays.
Now I spend most of my time playing games. I can go a week or two without doing any coding. Sometimes I get a programming 'itch' and then just start doing it frantically for a few days/week - then go back to playing games.
About 5-8 hours at work, and about 3-4 hours "in-transit" to and from work.
Maybe somewhere around 2 hours per day in the week for about 2-3 days, then maybe 3-4 hours on the weekend.
@work can vary from 8-10 hours per day down to zero depending on the role....
Can add to that 3 hours or so at home - the exception instead of the rule these days though.
Weekends, coding can go up to maybe 5 hours a day of what I want to code. (instead of my employers code).
Work = 10am -> 5pm
Misc = 5.30pm -> 9pm
Coding = 9pm -> 2am
On the weekends I get to do more, but also catch up on sleep - which is important.
However last weekend my neighbours decided to bring a digger into their backyard and operate it from about 9am Sat/Sun outside my bedroom window. Consequently I'm still feeling knackered even midweek.
what did you write.. "coding" ?
No i am moste hacking.
Like building smal programs. never big programs.. More like tech demos and testing limits of gfx card. widout any plans at all. Hacking = Joy coding.
Its about 1-2 hours per day. A good day its 12 hours.
at work not much coding more like hang on the phone and kep customers happy.
About 20 hours per week atm for me - evenings and weekends.
LOL - does everyone here at bb write code for a living?!
Normally 0 to 20 hours per week, not counting in work related coding. Right now I'm on a creative burst, so when I'm not coding my project, I'm thinking about it. So basically 24/7. :)
As I only have time coding nighttime when the kids has gone to sleep I would estimate it about 20-25 hours/week.
That's overall developing time (coding included but also, art, sound, communication, design, forumreading etc)
Hello.
Still getting over the travails of my MSc and am feeling kinda burnt out and not interested after work time.
Before, and toward the start of the MSc, I would be quite happy coming home from work and doing 4-5 hours a night. Damn, I need to get the itch back.
Goodbye.
