MAME

OK, I haven't played MAME in a few years and never re-installed it after my last HD crash, so I'm after a bit of advice.

Can someone tell me which version of MAME to download for best results playing in Windows (MAME32?)? Also, what's the best Windows frontend to use (nothing too complex, please)?

Thanks.

latest, I think 0.119 using mame32Plus! which supplies a front end. It's a more advanced mame32. There are various builds for 32bit, 64bit, AMD or INTEL, MMX, SSE...

I'll check it out, cheers. ;)

Yep, i use mame32 0.100 Its simple and a very good frontend. Under Dos i use Arcadeos.

Gah, all I wanted to do was play Asteroids for research purposes, but it seems all my ROMS are out of date. :/

Yep - unfortunately you do need to keep them up-to-date.

In the last version Aaron added a built-in text based front-end which provides a basic game selector - so if you don't want Mame32 you can use this. Start it by running mame.exe (without a gamename) or via the Menu.
