Game giveaway of the day
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Game giveaway of the day
some good games are being given away recently.
E.g. Master of defence.
Does giving your game away actually help?
Not in my opinion. There are compelling arguments about free stuff encouraging sales, but a community like GOTD just attracts an awful lot of people with a leech mentality who don't want to pay for anything. You only have to read the comments to see time after time "I dnt wont no crappy MarJonn game. Can we have HalfLife 2 2morrow?".
Not to mention that the collective IQ is about 4. Every day there are dozens of people unable to even install and register their free software.
It's become exactly what I said it would become when it started out. If you give away something good, I don't believe you'll gain much for it, and if you give away something half-assed in the hope of "beating the system" then you'll just get a lot of bad will and abuse from a lot of leeching teens with single digit IQ's.
There probably is a silent minority of more intelligent readers, but if all you're going to get is a few eyeballs, you probably want better word of mouth than a few people who are going to remain silent anyway.
probly right, the qualiy of some of these games is disturbingly good
The bottom line (only speaking for myself) is that there is so much software out there, and a lot of it for free, that I'm only going to shell out for something exceptional. If something is free and I like it, I have been known to make a small donation.
Gotta admit the comments are bad. Same most youtube comments, makes you wonder ...
I don't think it would help (financially) to give the game away for free unless you just want exposure.
the best free method is the magazine give away
even if princes latest album and that vinny jones dvd were 'free' the newspapers in question bought the rights for that country's distribution rights and absorbed the cost into the newspapers budged.
so if pcformat or gametm or an xbox ps3 magazine give away a pc xbox or ps3 game that once rrp'd at £50 last year or less you are getting it free (unless you bought the mag just for the game) and they've paid for the licence
im sure that when most of us got the pc plus 'free' version of blitz someone hopefully mark got to see some cash
