General Discussion forum question

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/General Discussion forum question

Is it true that anything users post in General Discussion has to be related to games or computing?

I think I remember a mod posting something like that once but I can't find anything about it anywhere now. All the posts in this forum give that impression anyway. I find this forum fairly boring because of this.

Try posting. They seem to have relaxed on that rule a bit, but avoid politics!

The general discussion forum title is "A forum for general discussion about computers, technology, videogames and related topics."

There used to be an off-topic forum for anything, but that was removed. Personally I like the fact that you go here to talk about computery stuff, if you want to go off topic there's the syntax bomb forum that seems pretty good for that.

There did use to be a 'sticky' post at the top of the general discussion saying that posts had to be related to games or computing but it disappeared some time ago (6 months?).

as Nomen luni says - try posting - what you post may or may not be deleted if it strays from the old rule.

Posts on sensitive issues won't last long, and some things like birthdays, weddings, or other similar posts don't usually last too long either.

Good idea, why didn't I think of that.

Rob, yes that's it, it says that on the main page. I forgot that. Yes, you can go to Syntaxbomb but there's not a lot of users that post there which is a pity.

Matty, yeah I wonder if my CD thread will last.

I can't understand why this forum is so strict on things that go outside these topics:
A forum for general discussion about computers, technology, videogames and related topics.

Is it really necessary to delete things like birthday posts?

Doesn't really matter either way does it, if it's deleted it was deleted for a reason, whatever that reason may be. Not worth spending any time worrying about it. Think about breasts instead, they're much nicer.

lol @ breasts!

Rob, I can remember the matchstick that broke the Camel's back. They used to be very easy going, but one particular thread, which was quickly deleted, put paid to that.

Aha, I didn't realise about the technology thing, maybe that's why some of my space shuttle threads survived.

Anyway, even if a thread is ontopic, people can quickly derail it into political, religious or just plain nasty talk.
