What's with the handle on the OCZ Reaper Memory?

I never saw anything like this in my life of building rigs, but this just came as a surprise. I wonder how this would even fit in a case? I NEVER saw RAM with a handle on top of that. Anyone know what that's there for? I mean, I know there's RAM with the spikes on top of that, like the Corsair Dominators and what not, but on a handle? It'll just be to make removing/fitting easier, with less likelyhood of giving the chips a bolt of static electricity, I guess. Bit of a gimmick, really.

It's not a handle, it's a heatpipe to keep the ram cool.

Be even lucky if that would even FIT in a standard ATX case, yet get all the airflow around it.

What are you doing in your case that you don't have half an inch of clearance above the ram sticks? Are you keeping your packed lunch in there or something? The only issue I can see if that you might have to rework the cabling if you were putting the ram into an existing machine because the IDE/ATA cables might be pulled tight over the ram, particularly if you're a big fan of cable clips.

Oh, it's a heat sink. Heh. :P

I've seen quite a few cases where a large heatsink on the CPU will hover over one or two of the DIMM slots, limiting their height.

What a lovely.... gimmick.

Heh, naw, it's not that, but I just thought that the extra heatsink would have left only a small gap between the mobo and the other side of the case, doesn't seem like it would leave very good airflow, unless you had a full-sized case. Not too sure how a mid-sized tower would fit this.

Like it or not, but gimmicks sell.

Just look at all the 'overclockers' going out of their way to buy computer cases that wouldn't look out of place in the batcave, and still add extra blue light tubes and water colling because it's 'cool'.

I'm sure that those are the kind of people that would line up to buy this kind of RAM to complement the set.
