When should we use it?

You can use it in team projects or for sourceforge/SVN files.

I only use it to build open source projects, never used it for my own projects (unless I decide to use it for a group project)

I've been using it for years.

I use it for all of my stuff as well. I store my source code in it, documents, and all kinds of other stuff. Great for anything you do that will be done in steps/versions.

I have been using it for ALL of my recent projects. It roxx as a versioning control tool. The reasons why I rate it:-

1. icon for files added to tortoise auto change to reflect changes have occurred
2. two clicks on files with icons changed and they're committed to the tool
3. fantastic diff utility (i.e. shows the changes between revisions of files code/document - only tool i know of that does this)
4. Last but by no means least, it has freed me from my 'hoard' mentality I've when developing an understanding of a language. i.e. you only have one file in a directory, but when you right click on it you can see the differences between all of your versions.

I am a coder, hence not a strong supporter of versioning tools. HOWEVER, tortoise SVN is the bizness if you are a developer with numerous things to keep track off.

Visual Source Safe is shockingly UN-intuitive when compared to Tortoise. Tortoise makes versioning control a pleasure.

Use it at work....not a big fan of it though.

Yep, used that at work too. Actually, kinda prefer that one instead.

Agreeing with Flameduck, VSS is < good, also, Tortoise has a great diff tool. {;-)
