My new site
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/My new site
Well, I am very proud because this is my first site.
It's all done only by me and I like it.
Hope you like it too.
Any criticism is welcomed...
http://www.moraldigames.com/Thanks for visiting
Yuck..
Very poorly coded. Also it has no excitement to it. Plain colors & text. Sucky buttons.. You can do a whole lot better than that..
You definitely need some nice looking (as opposed to annoying) Flash animations on your website. The thought behind that is simple: If you have a static website, how much fun can your games be? But, after all, that's just me, and I am one of the few who seem to like Flash. ;-)
On the contrary, I like it - its high contrast, easily readable site. Runs pretty fast here too - nothing is slow.
There is no point in putting in anything 'just because you can' - it needs a function. In this case there is no need to anything like Flash.
Was it done on a Mac per chance ?
Noooooo... Don't put any Flash animations on your website. Man, I hate those things. When I find a site with that crap on it, I usually don't stay around long. When I am trying to read text, I don't need moving crap on the screen drawing my eye...
Thank you all guys for your comments
I tried to be what Winni said: clear design and not heavy images in order to reduce running time.
Besides I do not know how to make flash animations, I don't know even the basics of web design.
It is difficult to keep the balance between a nice and professional looking site and a gaming site
Maybe it needs a little bit more fun in graphics...
The tools I used are:
Nvu:
http://www.nvu.com/Trellian Web Page
http://www.trellian.com/webpage/And for the graphics design
RealDraw Pro:

I think it's fine. It's not a design classic but it works and loads quick and doesn't have farty flash anims.
Good luck with the site and the game. Over time you can improve the site, but having something that isn't plain text is a good start, so you're on the right path.
Thanks Grey, your opinion counts
Something I've done with my site is put it within a horizontal limit, I've got a wide screen monitor and if you let it span the whole width it's damn hard to read, this is why newspapers have columns rather than having to read very long lines of text.
I would suggest limiting it to a fixed width and having white space either side.
[edit] ok.. you have limited it... I'd centre it too!
Geez, folks, you game designers are supposed to LOVE well done Flash sites. Just because you rarely see one that is done well that does not mean that Flash sucks. Don't think of dumb and annoying advertising animations, think of what this tool can actually do for you when it is used right.
Flash was extremely well used in the original Far Cry and STALKER websites. Has anybody here felt annoyed by the atmospheric soundtracks in the background, the random M16 fire on the Far Cry site or the flying bird flocks and thunderstorm sounds on the STALKER website? I didn't think so. These are things that you simply CANNOT do without Flash. They demonstrate that you master your art and give the visitor a real feeling of what your products are all about - better than screenshots and static webpages ever could.
By the way, has anybody played the 2D jump&run Gordon Freeman game that you received as a bonus to the Half-Life 2 bronze or gold packages? That game was also done in Flash, and it's really nice and fun.
Just a personal advice. remove the mailto tags if you're now willing to get TONES of spam in your mail server. In the other hand, I love it being this simple. I would suggest you to remove the glow effect arround text in some areas to make it even simpler.
You code in B3D? The colors of your site reminds me of the default color scheme of the default B3D ide. :D

I was. And I cant stand Far Cry either.

Agreed. Personally I'm a huge fan of nicely made flash sites. Even if it's just a simple (but smooth) navigation bar or header.
Nice Site. Especially as its your first. Personally, my criteria for a good website are clean design, uncluttered and easy to navigate, and how quickly and easily you get to the info you need. Your website passes on all counts in my opinion.
Yes, people have different preferences. I really liked Far Cry and sometimes had the website running in the background just for the sound. But more often I had the old STALKER webpage running; I loved the atmosphere it produced.
Anyway. "In meinem Land soll jeder nach seiner Facon glücklich werden", as the old Fritz said. ;-)
Pl@nt@genet: Thanks for your comments. I have the same criteria with you.
About Flash:
Please take a look here for example:
http://www.alawar.com/This is a game site I like. There is nothing animated here but it is a very good looking because they have right color combinations and easy navigation. With one click you select the category and in the second click you find the game you are looking for among many others games.
In any case I agreed that its a matter of personal taste.
nice one :)
