Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/new company Think of a name
find an accountant to help sort out registering with Companies House (in the UK), your finances for you tax insurance company tax, pay roll, VAT etc
Go to your bank to set up a business account
Get Public Liability insurance
rough idea costs about £300 in the UK, plus accountants annual charge, bank charges are free with someone like the NatWest for upto 18 months/2 years.

How do I make a company?
Depends on the country and the type of company you want to create. In Denmark it's handled by "Erhvervs og Selskabsstyrelsen" and they have an easy to use website to get you started. Do I have to register somewhere?
Yes. and How do I keep people from stealing my work and taking the credit?
You retain the services of a lawyer. In the UK, try QuickFormations.com (or co.uk) - will be much cheaper.
Yeah my accountants recommended an online firm that setup the company for £90.

Do game developers need this Peter? As an IT consultant the visited people's homes, it's sensible. Grey,
Actually possibly not, but if - like me you develop for others and they visit your premises then maybe.

Here's what I alway thought you could do as well.
Make a name, register it. Make a game with a small dedicated team & put it out for retail. The money you get you can keep making newer games for retail for more & more money, but then the hard part comes when you get enough money & you have to then pay your employees & have more people into the team & then make headquaters or have like an SVN or CVS or MySQL so they can all transfer their codes & art, etc. Then you'll finally have a company.
Lol, there's more details & harder shit, but I know nothing about this shit. I am just 15 & never studied game company managing.

Lol, Chunkations. We don't have enough knowledge to do all of that. All we can really do right now is get better at math & programming as a hobbiest, there are some that make money but that's stupid for learning experinces.
wow that's one bug sig you got. Why not have a BIO page link instead?
ok thanks guys i heard something about buying copyrights ,but i only got about $40 right now , and im only 14 (so ya i don't know this stuff either). im in america if that makes any difference to my registration ?
You cannot register a company (or otherwise enter into a legally binding contract) until you reach the age of majority. In the US this is 18 in most states.

One additional 'advantage' of a company is that it can shield the owners from personal liability in case their software (unintentionally) does something disastrous to someone elses computer -- if you personally sell it they have the ability to take *you* to the cleaners, if you have a company then the company's total assets are as much as can be on the hook.
Look if you are 14 don't worry about it. Just make a cool game (finish it) and get it out there. No one will steal it to take credit from it, but they might pirate it, so what? Just build up your skills and don't worry about this "registration" stuff. Make a website with your stuff on it and it'll be cool.

I don';t know any free *domain* hosting, but you can get a free website with a decent amount of space through google:
http://www.pages.google.com
They'll give you an address like yourname.googlepages.com
Sorry I don't know much about free hoting, I pay for mine but it costs hardly anything. Perhaps buying a domain name and some webspace for you $40 would be a good investment...
