Paypal - they're getting better at it...

I just got an email from "PayPal" stating that someone was trying to access my account from France ip address, and therefore I needed relogin and follow instructions to re-validate. Or face temporary suspension of my account until they can resolve the issue.

LOL...of course I had to see. So I clicked on the link it gave me - DON'T log in, just check it out: ** link removed **

The first thing I look at is the URL. Busted!

If I were you I would capture a screenshot of that screen and link to it. It's just a bad idea to link to it, even with a warning attached. Some dufus will give their personal details away and then blame you or BRL or someone other than themselves.

Yeah I always check the url. Anything other than paypal.com and I wouldn't click it. In fact paypal never sent out links anyway.

It's weird - it's full of meetings - camping events and stuff - almost like it is Al Queida (whatever) in the UK - like the UK lot that went on the camping expedition thing.

There is no-one to blame for that than their own stupidity. People falling for phishing sites and 411 scams deserve to be robbed for every penny they have, and the sooner natural selection weeds them out the better.

Grey: Even if it *does* say paypal.com you shouldn't click it: OVer the years there have been a number of vulnerabilities in outlook express and Internet explorer that would mask the true URL displayed in a hover-over link, and showed a fake one instead.

I clicked it and I logged into Paypal with it.

The email does have a tell-tale typo in it though - would show up in spellcheck. The email is certainly fraud - unless it is a joke.

We just need "Neuro" to reveal the sender's email address.

IF you are using windows, NEVER click on a link in an email. It could be a booby trapped link as well as a fake login.
I reccommend viewing all email as text only so you can see the true anchor contents. If you think a link is genuine (as in no blatantly fake ip address) check carefully the spelling, ie: "login.payapal.com" rather than login.paypal.com
