Dear All,
I was wondering whether anybody knows of a model that is similar of SimCity and well documented? I am looking for any kind of relatively simple scenario with plenty of variables that interact with each other to create a simulated environment.
It could be a city, space station or basically anything else that could be modeled in a sandbox.
I would even be happy with something as abstract as Populous.
The important thing is that it is proven and comes with plenty of Excel spreadsheet models to test and balance it.
Please don't point me to LinCity. This is because I would not like to try and re-create SimCity. Any attempt on my side to try this would never do the original justice.
I would also be interested in a pure economic model. I always thought that games like Hansen were brilliant.
The following is a list things that I want to avoid to have to deal with:
- No AI required. The entire purpose of the game is to 'surf' or beat the model
- It should be turn based and not RTS-like in any way
- No path finding required. Networks are fine (example: power grids)
- No fractal generated environments or markets. Everything should start from a blank sheet of paper
- The world can be represented in 2D
One idea that I particularly like is the following:
A game where the player manages the network of a fast growing multi-national company. The aim of the game is to balance network traffic, security, manageability, cost and scalability of a network through the entire lifecycle.
The second part of the game would be to open the network and become a major provider of network services to third parties. Stage one is basically working as a cost centre whilst stage two is about becoming a profit centre.
Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions would be more than welcome.
Kind regards
Reda Borchardt
