Macbook Pro: where is the # key?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Macbook Pro: where is the # key?

Hi I have a Macbook Pro purchased in the UK and cannot find the # key! Also the keyboard seems like a US one or something because number 2 has @ and " is where @ is on my UK keyboard. Is that normal for all MacBook Pros? Thx.

You seriously can't find the # key? o_O

That's it, I'm never buying a Mac. :P

Alt + 3

I have so... wait, wrong question.

Yeah, that's something that I don't like about the Mac. I mean, come on - how do they expect people to program for the Mac without easily being able to use #? It took me a while to find out how to get the character.

I recently got a macbook (non pro) and I was annoyed about the # until I realised I could just do :Float... but now I know about Alt+3.... also, what about page up/down? is there one?

mrtricks: OK thanks! Crazy!

Rimmsy: Yeah I was using :Float on the train yesterday but the rest of my project (written on a PC) has # in it.

I have arrow keys and on them is written home/end/page up/page down and I hav eto press Ctrl with the arrow key to get those functions.

Yeah, it is a bit funny but you get used to it. I find PCs awkward now because of the " and @ being in different places. Oh, and © is alt+G. Pretty much every key has two symbols behind it (alt + key, alt + shift + key). And here they are, in qwerty layout:

¡€#¢?§¶•ªº–?
œ?´®†¥¨^ø?“‘
åß?ƒ©???¬…æ«
`??ç??~µ??÷

?™‹›??‡°·‚—±
Œ„‰ÂÊÁËÈØ?”’
ÅÍÎÏÌÓÔ?ÒÚÆ»
ÛÙÇ??ˆ˜¯?¿

So there!

You should try using a swedish keyboard, you have to use the "Alt Gr" Key* for these commonly used chars @£$€[]{}\~|
(*that one that appears to have no function on a UK keyboard)

Really annoying :(

On a QWERTZ keyboard, the @ symbol is on Alt-L. I still wonder why this is not consistent.

I have to admit that I bought a Microsoft Natural Keyboard for my iMac, so that I can --SEE-- where all the braces and other special characters are. I also can type much faster with that kind of keyboard. The only downside is that they don't have an EJECT key.

mrtricks: cool thx!

Sound's like Apple bought the remaining Sinclair ZX Spectrum/Commodore 64 keyboards to me. Looks like I will be having fun when my iMac turns up next week then.

Yeah I was using :Float on the train

When I first read that I thought it said that you were using :Float on the terrain and I was like OMG, Grey is making a 3D game!!! Bah....it says train. :p

haha, I'll maybe move into 3D in 2010 or 2020...maybe...
