Get Command and Conquer Free

EA have made the original Command and Conquer ( the Windows XP compatible version as featured on their recent compilation ) available for free. Both discs are available as ISO's for you to download and burn.

Anyway, it's cool that they're giving it away. I don't know if it'll work in Vista but still it's worth the download.

Gotta love EA. They release a bugged version for TFD (which is supposed to be updated for 'modern OS' support but doesn't work in Vista), a free version that comes with the C&C3 Collectors Pack (really the only thing worthwhile in that pack) and now they give it away for free anyway.

hmmmm. The GDI one just terminated after 150MB, and how it's giving me a 404 not found error when trying to restart.

They'e free now so I don't see the problem.

afaik that's legally not improper, unless the website states you may not, for instance when they want you to drool over their banners at the download page.. or so.. :P

I'd actually wish for Blizzard to release a free Warcraft3 that actually works on my PC, I have the damn game original but it refuses to work on my DVD drive. Some copy protection, in the end what do I gain with all that? I even tried a virtual CD drive, but still no luck.

Tried downloading this, but it was going to be a long 6-8 hours wait, so I tried installing FDM and it should take less than 2 hours for each ISO to download. We'll see!

I remember the setup screen being the best ever!! (the DOS version anyway (I dont think the windows version had it))

I used to play it 4 player at work it was a blast, I ruled and one of the programmers used to get really moody haha so we ganged up on him (just to make it worse).

After playing this for a while, I can definitely say this: RTS games have come a *long* way in 12 years. :-?

Not sure how balanced it is, either -- the first 4 or 5 levels were very easy, but I'm hopelessly stuck in the one where I only have the sniper unit...

First Ubisoft making Far Cry free, and now this. Well, give me a chance to build my desktop together, *then* I'll probably look into making these two games happen. Leads me to wonder now, would Infirmary Ward make the earlier CoD titles free next?

Yep, Free Download Manager did the trick, I had the full iso's in a couple of hours. Now to play!

It's a covert operation - up until the point where you infiltrate the base. All you need to do is get in and blow up ... something. You don't need to be alive after that...

I haven't been able to make it *to* the base so far.

I get the air carrier, but it gets shot down by the SAM's. So I have to blow up the SAM sites, always take a good chunk of my health away because they blow before I can get away from them.

Plus there are some buggies driving around near one of the missile sites, and they kill me before I can get away or terminate them. :-?

When blowing shit up, it sometimes helps to click on the structure, then click away as soon as it flashes. Helps the little bugger to avoid some of the shrapnel. It does require a little bit of luck, but you shouldn't be having huge amounts of trouble with it...

Don't take on vehicles. Follow them but never get close enough for anything to see you. You can spend a good amount of time surveying everything before doing anything too drastic, thanks to the huge sight radius. You can kill any of the soldiers without too much fuss being made in most cases. Just make sure you get the first shot in.

Eventually you'll want to sneak into the base from the west side and the structure you're looking for is pretty much on the east side - once you're in the base, you just need to gun it. You'll have everybody after you but as long as you make it to the structure before being killed you'll pass.

I'll give it a shot.

Problem so far is that I've run into one or two of the little buggies when I get near the base, and they always remove my remaining health before I can do anything about it...

There are ways of avoiding them, but I don't remember ;] Either they're actually on patrol and move around occasionally, or you might be able to destroy a structure up north and get their attention that way, then run back around before they figure out you're screwing with them =]
