This is something I've been waiting for, still waiting...

Looks excellent.

If it was going to be released, it would have by now. Another 6 months and they will have to redo everything in order to not be obsolete. Valve apparently doesn't have faith in them, and won't supply the original HL .map files.

It's a great idea, and there is nothing stopping a competing mod team from completing it first. The problem is HL was such a large game, that it would take a lot of people to recreate all the levels.

that does look excellent.

It did seem a wasted opportunity to just re-release HL1 with the source engine but not change anything (except water).

If it was going to be released, it would have by now.
I am sure you can appreciate the time it takes to remake an enormous game (30-40 hours [Edit: 30-40 hours long], I believe?) in spare time without chance of directly earning money as a reward.

They have recently done a few interviews, released a great deal of media, and shown absolutely no sign of being dead, if that's what you are poking at.
A very noble effort, it is. The technology may be a little bit behind at this point (sounds unlikely that they will be using the Episode 2 Source engine changes, but we may be pleasantly surprised), however, it is Half-Life, and HL2 Episode 2 really is a good looking game, slightly aged or not.
I am definietly looking forward to BM, but to avoid going crazy I try to forget it exists. I have turned it into a reflex action to check for updates really quickly without actually thinking about it.
