Two Mice at the same time

Is it possible to use two mice in Windows these days?
In the old days, you'd plug in a second mouse into your spare com ports, which would for example in old dos games allow 2 mice, one for player 1 and one for player 2. In Windows 98 the second mouse plugged in does not control the main cursor in Windows, but in XP you can plug in more than one mouse they both control the cursor at the same time and there seems to be no way of telling Windows to add a new mouse (such as adding a second gamepad)

it would be great for my game if you could do this i could use split screen 2 player or co op.

I dont think you can do it though, as every pointing device you plug in controls the same pointer. ive got a graphics tablet and a mouse plugged into my pc most of the time. the tablet overides the mouse when you use it.

I tried it from that site and it didn't work in the slightest, and judging from the support forums, it hasn't worked for quite some time (Ever?)
It's reassuring to know that this worked ok in previous versions of Windows, even the 20 year old Amiga 500 worked out the box, plug 2 mice in, bobs your uncle.

maybe even using two mice to control a single player game. Playing an FPS using two mice would possibly work really well, or a flight sim maybe.

WinUAE does this fine. Lemmings is still kickass fun against someone.

I wish 3d programs had support for this instead of the insanely expensive space mouse option.

Imagine 2 mice,
Mouse 1(right/left hand) = picking and pulling, editing and object transforms etc..
Mouse 2(left/right hand) = move/zoom/pan/rotate/mouselook the camera.

It would be interesting to see how it feels for FPS too, one controls your actual direction and the other controls your head/gun. This would also leave 6 buttons and 2 scrollers for other things (fire, fire2, run, strafe, jump)

It's definitely possible under windows XP, but I have no idea how...
