I’m happy to say my first game, War Wound, has been reviewed in the indie section of this month’s PC Zone (UK). It’s a nice feeling to see something you’ve put so much time into reach the outside world.

Good stuff, well done.
Nice one. How did they rate it?
It looks impressive (I've just watched your video).

Great stuff.
I remember seeing the screenshots a month or so back and thinking it looked very, very good.

It like Cannon Fodder game....very good game you got there and I am please you got good review =)
Cool man! I've had some print reviews for my game Thrust Xtreme and I know the feeling :) Well done, again.
I am sure he will making War Wound 2 next lol
Yeah, well done - haven't played the demo but video does look nice. Any chance of a scan of the review?
I don’t have a scanner so I’m afraid I can’t put the article up for all to read. The review itself was mixed, on the one hand they said that the game was pretty fun and good that we were doing something different but on the other hand they said the visuals were grainy, would have been better with a story and the pathfinding wasn’t great.
I have to say I find some of that bemusing. I disagree with the opinion that the visuals are grainy and tellingly, so, apparently, does everybody else! On the thread I started when the game was released most people said specifically that they thought the graphics were really sharp.
The whole point about the story seemed to hinge around initial confusion as to how to play. War Wound is pretty straightforward for anybody that ever played Cannon Fodder or Syndicate but I suppose if you never played those games then things may be harder. This is something we’ll take on board for future games, most games these days have tutorials. People just want to be told what to do.
The pathfinding I agree with. Although it’s not actually pathfinding because there isn’t any! It’s a direct-control action game. Basically he ended up walking into walls and splitting his team up. This happens at first but you soon get used to moving your team about. Even so, this can be annoying at first and I should have fixed this.
I’m pretty positive about the review though, he didn’t say ‘War Wound is gash, avoid it like the plague.’ It’s just he picked out a few bad points that one of which in my opinion was imaginary and the other two will only bother players at first, if at all.

Makepool: good to see your game in Pc zone, would be nice to see it in retro gamer, they did a nice little write up on thrust extreme.
I would disagree with the grainy remark too, the graphics are clean and sharp. I think modern games engines are filtered a bit to much these days, thats what the reviews used to, so when he sees a shape crisp graphic, he says oh my god look how blocky and grainy it is. he would much rather see a nice depth of field effect. don't worry about it.
I think it looks and plays great, id give it (nine out of ten chainsaws)
Pete

ive just got Pc zone. I can't really see what Martin Korda is on about. There top indie game in there indie review section uses the unreal 3 engine which is not really an indie price tag is it.
Glad to see people, if not reviewers, are enjoying our game. Nine out of ten chainsaws isn’t bad at all! In addition, our game is on the cover disc of this month’s PC Gamer. There’s no review though. Here’s what it looks like on the DVD menu.
it got 9/10??????
congratulations

Nice one.
I agree that it would be nice to have the game shown in Retro Gamer in one form or another. I may have to look into it.
It is really nice to see it getting out and about though.
*Hotshot2005* mentioned War Wound 2 further up the topic. My reply is, not yet...but never say never, we have some idea's floating about.
Pete Carter: How are your projects going, such as the Syndicate rework?

Makepool: Still working on the syndicate style game, ill pop a demo your way when i get a bit more done. been having some big slow down issues with my new graphics card which is odd but ill get round it im sure. Also took along time balancing the camera distance and angle for the best viewing angle that didnt make the textures look to jagged. not easy is it.
