Vista IDE's

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Vista IDE's

I got a new laptop (yay!) and it has vista installed (which is good [please dont flame me]) So i'm wondering what IDE's for B3d run in Vista. I tried ideal and protean and both are acting strangely. Maybe i should dig up my old copy of visual blitz and give it a try?

Well, I dual-booted my laptop, but now with going back to a desktop after a few months time, then I'm probably gonna kiss this dead-end upgrade paperweight for good. I mean, its stuck with a graphics card I can't even upgrade (even tho it's the best that Dell had at the time), and it's a single-core processor, which may not cut it after a while. However, most of my programming's done on the XP side of my notebook, and I may play them back in Vista, to test compatibility, but that's about it. However, Blitz does seem to do a good job in Vista, I tested that, but as far as other languages, XP is still the choice for me.

Except for Protean (which locks up as soon as I open a menu), all the others I've tried so far are working fine (IDEal, IndeEd, Project Studio 2007).
IDEal works fine here (it has been my choice after installing Vista Ultimate), so the problem shouldn't be the OS.

IDEal doesn't compile for me. It just opens up and then closes the "compiling..." window. I'll try IndeEd or ProjectStudio.

Are you sure you set the compiler with the right path? ("settings" --> "Preferences" --> "Compilers" tab, click on "add new" and then "set as default")

nope... I still need to get the full version on here (awaiting a reply from support) so maybe thats whats wrong.

And you are sure you are running it as administrator, otherwise you won't compile anything with any language ... (and if you want to prevent further issues, disable UAC until SP1 for Vista is out which hopefully will fix some of the app killing issues within UAC)

ah, there we go. Now its working. The admin trick works often doesn't it?
