Every reviewer is ecstatic ...

Every reviewer is ecstatic ...

In rapture, one might even say...

lol

The graphics look quite outdated, well it still looks good, but not like Crysis or other modern titles. But I guess that's because the XBOX360 doesn't have a GeForce 8800 Ultra and Core Quad Extreme CPU.

I don't get it. It looks like mutants + Alice in Wonderland?

The whole shooting women and children thing is a bit distasteful, even if they are mutants or zombies or whatever. I guess it's the baby carriage thing that creeps me out.

You can't shoot the children. Well, I guess techically you can, but since nothing happens, it's hardly being encouraged.

Some lovely water effects in this. There's one bit in particular in the 360 demo that really, really impressed me - water gushing everywhere. Love the setting of this too, with the 1960s music and decor - gives the game a very distinct feel.

I don't like the look of it - the graphics seem to 'cartoony' to me. I think it is visually off-putting.

puki has spoken.... the 3D meister, or is it mister ? anyways, had a quick peek, if puki reckons it blows then it blows.

I certainly won't be ripping any media from it. I'm way ahead of them.

LMAO ((;-)

Oh, completely outdated [rolls eyes]. Anyway, from the reviews it sounds like the artists having really been let loose on this title - which will be a great change from endless corridors of shiny metal tubing.

I think it looks rubbish.

I might email them some pictures of my Oblivion and Half-Life 2 stuff and then point out it is DX7 - how about that for being owned.

I expect they'll be shattered - probably recall the game!

To me it just looks completely ridiculous:

Why isn't the blue thing thing looking at the player - coz it's rubbish, total rubbish. My characters have moving eyes - they don't just move their heads - they move their eyes.

What about their ears? Some people can wiggle their ears as well.

This belongs in Sesame Street - it's rubbish - it's a muppet carrying another muppet like a teddy-muppet - it has a trowel for an arm - what's it going to do; dig a hole and plant the other muppet?

whats going on there? is that some kind of motion blur?

AAw Bless, Puki the blue eyed freak can look at you, but he daren't for fear of dissapproval. Eyeballing gets u nowhere..............

Personally I think it's refreshing to see a development team who had an artistic vision to match their technical prowess. It definitely *does* have a streak of American McGee's Alice in the visual styles, but that's a good thing in my book.

I assume it's U3 engine? That seems to be the only engine worth a damn on X360.

In some cultures it's a sign of respect not to make eye contact (when you're attacking someone with a metal pipe) - so this game can be deemed 'culturally safe' in its design.

Played the 360 demo and it's pretty impressive. The way you can link up your Plasmids is pretty sweet. I didn't blink while playing the demo and usually I get bored with the demos pretty quick and don't feel like picking up the actual game. I think this might be one to pick up. The part where the tail of the airplane crashes into the tunnel was the most impressive part, the water effects there were tremendous.

@MadJack: Then again, in some cultures it might be a sign of respect to get eye contact. So it's not "culturally-safe".

See, this is where if you want to enjoy a game, you should steer clear of forums - cause people just give out spoliers like candy!

(Actually I've already seen this in a video - but apparently the game has a twist that if you don't want to know about, you probably should avoid forums cause somebody'll spill it just for 'a laugh'.)

Those things are like cracked out of their gourds that's whey they don't look at you.

Politeness does dictate you should look at someone when you crack them over the head with a pipe though. Hopefully they'll patch this.

I'm sure when a user points out the obvious "eyes not looking at you" bug, the game will be recalled and refunds given to all purchasers.

Isn't it kind of amusing that most of the time people here are complaining about that the big business is only about better gfx, blabla and now when there is a game with some depth the first complains go directly into this direction?! Even better is the comment which indirectly says that it's okay shooting men whilst it isn't shooting women and children.

Anyway from the stills and movies i've seen i found the gfx quite good. Interesting architecture and tasteful texturing and colours. I wonder if they increase the texture resolution for the pc version.

This game should make some Xbox360 owners really happy.

That's all very well - but do they have the latest Shader Model plus three effects? Is everything bump mapped with super specular whizzery, ultra magical cubemapping and super hi-resolution physics fecal matter? Can you flush the virtual toilets? Can you bump the resolution up to 6000 x 4501 and still get a solid 200fps (some people can tell the difference!)? These are the important questions!

Ask epic as it's U3 driven...

I checked - there's no mention of super hi-resolution physics fecal matter. I'm very disappointed.

Yes perhaps, but you can flush the toilets.

I've lost count of the number of virtual toilets I've visited over the years. Not all of them were flushable.

Did you ever play Broken Helix for the PS1? That game had the best toilets!

Hmm - maybe it's time to change the subject.

True, this one's in the crapper ... <ducks>

That's really sad that most of you guys only judge how good a game is by its graphic quality, even before you've played it. How about reading some of the reviews first, or waiting until the PC demo arrives tomorrow?

http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/bioshock?q=bioshock

The only problem I have is the Thompson...it's obviously a 1928 model (the vertical foregrip and Cutts compensator), but it has the rear sight and side cocking handle (wrong side of course!) of an M1...even though it has the bolt slot on top like the proper 1921/1928 models. What on Earth were they thinking?

Oh, and yes, I am a Thompson SMG fan.

I like the way Bioshock looks - thank god someone has the guts to try some scenarios that aren't real-world and photorealistic , I'm so sick of seeing that stuff.

This has its own style, a coherent look and some interesting ideas. Personally I will be playing it first before making judgements about how is sucks / rules based purely on how it looks in some screenshots.

There's more to atmosphere than just what you see in the static screenshots - movement, lighting changes, sounds, the feel of the weapons in play etc.. etc... all makes the game.

I just had to make a crap excuse as to why I fell about laughing in the office.....

sits and waits for puki to do something which doesn't contain ripped art and then boast about it...waits...waits a bit longer...nah, it isn't gonna happen.

Just shelled out for this on he basis of all those 10/10's!

Heh, and to think we could all do something like this in B3D a long time ago, using that "underwater" code in the code-archives
LOL!

You could take a leak in Duke Nuken 3D, and that gained you a health point!

10/10 for these washed out textures? Oh boy... hopefully the pc version will do better. Crysis I need you!

Although I am a graphic-whore, it doesnt have to be photorealistic for a game to be good. The gameplay and concept for this game is very intriguing and definately a move away from the standard run-n-gun style of traditional FPS. So far reviews have been very positive (although everyone thought Warioware was good when it turned out to be crap) so thats a good thing. I'm definately picking up this game next week when it comes out (for the PC of course).

I doubt Crysis will do any better. Released media material is usually photoshoped or running on code which has not been optimised.

Not optimised = higher graphics quality, lower framerate = unrealistic target.
Optimised = usually lower graphics quality, better framerate = more playable code.

Have you not watched the real-time editor demos that were running on a freaking laptop eye?
(YouTube them if you haven't)

Anyways, looking forward to the BioShock PC demo, which should be out today.

I have seen them, can you tell me if that was release code ? and what specs ?
Playing with the editor is not the same as playing the game with the effects turned on. Have you seen any evidence of the frame rate running on release code ?

Im not saying that Crysis will look or play bad, but just take everything you see with a pinch of salt.

Anyone else just pick this up today?

I did, and I am seriously at a loss for words to describe how beautiful this game is from the opening hour of gameplay, extremely, stupidly high initial impressions.

Running it on "High" (haven't found any custom-config option for video graphics) at 1024x768 on my GF6800 GT, and it runs modest as I expected, FPS ranging from 10-25 depending on what's going on, unsure how well it handles with the mouse at that framerate, as I opted for the 360 controls so I could actually see how well it works in a game that directly supports it.
(glad the developers decided to include the interface used in the 360 version as well for when you have the pad enabled, hate having to mess with both the pad and mouse in some games that have menus)

This is seriously a title that needs to be experienced in motion, the still-screenshots are a disgrace.

The graphics look quite outdated, well it still looks good, but not like Crysis or other modern titles.
Which is obviously totally important, because apart from Bioshock the top-seller have such wonderful top-notch graphics like Civilization 4, Sims 2, Dawn of War and GRAW2.

Just shelled out for this on he basis of all those 10/10's!
I just shelled out for it on the recommendation of some of you guys. Just what I was hoping this thread would do. Okay so I'm a little worried that Jeremy likes it, but what can you do?

Hey!!! LOL

This is seriously a title that needs to be experienced in motion, the still-screenshots are a disgrace.

This Church of Blitz cannot be crushed - our resolve will not wain - we will not faulter - we are the collective Large - we want Crysis - it is the law.

Bah, after having played this, I doubt Crysis would have the same visual impact on me as BioShock has.

Crysis just looks like your standard art direction (striving for photo-realism) powered by a crapload of visual and shader effects, and I've already seen most of that stuff already in other titles.
(hey there Gears of War!)

BioShock on the other hand, as mentioned, looks as if they let the artists go wild on it, bringing the areas to life with a stupid level of detail and texture work, the likes of which I haven't seen yet in a modern-gen title.

Yah i picked this up today too for the PC. A bit worried that my current system wouldn't be able to run it (running GF6800 GT SLI) and to my assumptions, it actually did run it. Although playable, it ran pretty crappy on high settings. Much more manageable on medium settings, but definately not what I'm use to playing PC games on. Its the signs of the time....time for me to upgrade my graphics card soon...

Anyways, I wasn't initially super estactic like I thought I was going to be, probably due to the fact that I already watch all preview clips of it so I knew what to expect. Not to say that the game itself isn't great, its definately unqiue. You really do get the feeling of a world gone mad from the habitants and the effects the "plasmids" have done to people. The atmosphere for the game is amazing though, the best since the Metroid Prime games for the GC. You're constantly reminded that you are under water and the nature of the enviroment will react according to being under water. The levels itself are very detailed and you can see that "Rapture" would of have been one fancy place to live before its collapse. The character models aren't "realistic" in the sense of traditional FPS games, but rather remind me more of the odd ball characters from Serious Sam 2 (but better). Normally I would make note of this since I tend to prefer the more "realistic" approach, but the artistic direction of this game fits the atmosphere much better.

Anyways, I like it so far. It lived up to what I expected to be. Still looking forward to actually battling that "Bid Daddy" and taking the killing route of the "Little Sister". Apparenlty you can actually not kill them and this will affect you later in the game....

I LOVE THIS GAME!!!
