Succumbed to the hype

Couldn't help myself - pre-ordered Bioshock last night, should arrive Friday week. Been hearing good things about it, just hope it's not buggy on release.

In the meantime, 'Secret Files: Tunguska" should keep me interested.

However, think I'll have to plonk out for some more ram. The specs list 1 gig as min, but suspect 2gigs would be prudent.

I'm wondering how much my modded X800 will choke on this game! Hope it doesn't require shader model 3!

Wish they'd go into more detail as to how well/bad the game runs on minimum.

I'm just slightly above minimum here, hoping for at least a steady 30fps at 800x600 with near everything cranked.

Anyone got word on the PC demo's release? 360 just got it the other day, but read PC demo got delayed due to technical issues.

Well my PC certainly has enough oomph, but I think I'll nab the XBox 360 version. It might cost a few quid more but it's unlikely to drop frames on X360 and it'll probably look better to boot.

I'm guessing, but I have a feeling that if you're only just above min spec, you'll not be able to have all eye-candy on even at that res and achieve 30fps? Hope I'm wrong though.

Wish I could get the 360 version, but my bro just moved out and took his Elite with him. ;/

Anyways, I been able to play other recent games (decently coded ones that is) at roughly what I explained with a decent framerate.
(such as STALKER, albeit I'm now getting about double the framerate in that title after installing a little shader mod)


[EDIT] I recall this title being developed by two teams for the interface to suit it's system better no? Kinda hoping they kept both on the PC version, as I really wouldn't mind using my 360 controller here in more PC titles where I deem it more comfortable.

Sounds exactly like SM 3.0 is required as a minimum.

Nope, the whole 6 series supports it.

Regardless, I've still yet to see a game that supports 3.0 that actually makes use of 3.0, rather than just using it as a way to artificially up the requirements, where you could have just used 2.0 and supported older cards instead.

I'm runnign a 7600GT and having second thoughts, I guess I should be fine though. It's the resolution that normally kills me. I hate running stuff lower than 1680x1050

6600GT runs most demandng games fine so long as you don't go over 1024x768 and have AA turned off, even games with HDR seem ok on my old card, and my CPU is almost 4 years old now.

You will almost certainly need 2GB if your using Vista, Not sure about XP, I guess it helps.

I can't remember a game I've bought that worked (out-of-the-box) since about the early 90's. Could be my taste in games tho'. I certainly hope it works for you, being all hyped up and then getting a broken game (I'm talking about you, Civilization IV) is very disheartening.

It can be a rare thing nowadays.

Prey worked out of the box (on first release) - enjoyed that.

Starcraft worked out of the box - 1998, sure it had patches but I never had any crashes, Diablo - 1996 also ran fine out of the box. I guess that is a bit of nit-picking though about dates...Doom3 on my laptop worked fine without any patches.
