old fart

Hi All.
I have got to put this down in words sorry for the rant.Am i the only sad sod that still remembers Blitz on the Amiga jeez im 41 years old now.As soon as they said they was making a PC Blitz,i sold my Amiga and bought a PC,believe or not i actually made a game in Amiga Blitz,and it was in Amiga Format.I hade a 1 page spread lovely,and earn`t £50 for my reader game,jeez now im going back.
Anyway back to the point are there still sad sods,old farts,call me what you will using Blitz,in any form or am i the only sad old one here.

If it wasn't for being a sad old Amiga Blitz user, I wouldn't be here. (Nearly 34 years old now.)

What was your game/real name? I'll bet I'm more than sad enough to still have the relevant copy of AF...

It was called BugZ (hang on digs out old Amiga Format)
it was issue 130 December 1999 page 38.

I think his question is who are the Amiga Blitzers?

I was number 600 and something back in those days and bought it after the demo appeared in AF.

However - 1999 is not far back. I've been a Blitzer since 1992.

Hey, yeah. I am 31 now, not exactly `old`, but was dabbling with Blitz on the Amiga around the early to mid 90's, it seems. Was a big AMOS fan for quite a while and resisted switching to Blitz but it had some cool stuff like stencils and `blitz mode` and in-line assembler so that was all cool. That was when all the graphics were in planar modes using AGA chipset etc 320x256 resolution anyone? And things weren't quite as polished or high level as they are in BlitzMax. Started writing a scorched tanks type game in Blitz, to begin with, then realized I needed lots of graphics routines I didn't have, so wrote Mildred chunkygraphics library in asm using fastram and cpu blitting, but never really got around to applying it to making that game work. Those were the days. Then had to let the Amiga go when I immigrated to the USA and did not expect to ever program again until suddenly finding BlitzMax for the Mac.

I did get Blitz 2.1, but never used it

Am I old enough? Yes. Did I have Blitz on the Amiga? No. I didn't do Teh Intarweb or mail order back then, I preferred things I could buy over the counter.. in boxes.. with money. I still kinda do in some ways.

So yeah, Amos for me too. Blitz may have been better ( surely was, in fact ) but Amos totally outmuscled it in marketing. I only even read about Blitz once, in a review of Skidmarks, I think. I tried everything I could to get hold of it locally, but everyone looked at me like I'd asked them for three kilos of cow manure, so I never got it.

It`s a strange world i only asked if there was any old blitz users from Amiga days.

Blitz, blitz2 user on an A500 and A3000. I remember eagerly waiting for the BUM issues which came randomly or not at all.
Their are many ex-Amigans here.

Ex A1000/A4000 user but no Blitz on there. Actually i think i even didn't know that it existed. I used SEKA/AsmOne(!)-Assemblers and GFA Basic instead. *sigh*

I used Blitz on the Amiga. I'm 25 now, so not too old then :-D.

I used Amiga Blitz, I used to love receiving my BUM in the post every few months, didn't like the manual much A4 was way too big - im 38 so moving closer to the "old fart" zone.

I thought Nexus6 replicants only have a 4 year lifespan? :)

How's that then? I didn't even own Dark Basic myself! However, I was perilously close to 'having' to buy it since I'd just moved to the PC, and it was probably the best of what I considered to be a bad lot at the time. Mark re-appeared just in time to save the day!

Never caught on to the Blitz bandwagon on the Amiga, but I was into Amos. Once the Amiga was dead I came to PC and decided I wanted to write a game. Started learning C, then found I could produce something better than the demos that came with my C games programming book with Blitz in 30 minutes. Never looked back (and never released a game yet, but that's another story)

I guess I switched to the PC just a week too soon...

I'm 41 and don't feel that way at all.
Maybe it's the misconception that games
are for kids that makes you feel that way.
The demographics on casual games should
reassure you.

I'm knocking on 36 and if it wasn't for BBasic on the Amiga 1200 I wouldn't be here either....

The reason I started playing with an evaluation copy of B3D was because I'd managed to develop a utility on the Amiga that worked well, my marketing team let me down (eh - that'll be me then) - however - it made it onto a copy of Amiga Format...

Anyways, started developing a version for the PC... forgot about it for a while due to other things... bit of BMax. little B3D, too much C.

I was there in the Amy days and I'm 'only' 28. You old codgers would have been old even back in them days. =]

I used Blitz Basic 2 on the Amiga 2 and I'm 32. Came to Blitz late though, when I was 18 or 19 after doing assembly for years.

I'm creaking, paid up 8 bitter here.
