I just cancelled my subscription to Warcraft.

I'm making this pledge now to not play another MMRPG until I've released something of good commercial quality in Blitz.

It got me when I type /played, and it read 21 days. that's not good.

I know other people have racked up hundreds of days played, but 21 entire days in the last six months just seemed like such a waste of time.

You don't acheive anything at all playing MMRPG's anyway, at the end of the day, the publisher just turns off the server and everything you've done the last couple of years goes just like that. Anyone kidding themselves into thinking MMORPG's are as worthwhile as RealLife activities are really losing the plot.

Sorry for going off on a preachy rant here, I'm still getting over the shocking of actually cancelling.

My list of MMOs include:

Ultima Online
EverQuest
Dark Ages of Camelot
World of Warcraft
EverQuest 2

I tried a bunch more than that for trials and whatnot, but nothing more than a week. I only played EverQyest 2 for about a month.

I have always seemed to tire of them fairly quickly though. The only one I stayed with for a while was WarCraft, got my 60th level character and then ran out of stuff to do, because I was never into the whole adventuring with 30 other people thing. It just takes way too much time to get something like that set up.

I am waiting for a new concept to come out before I do it again. A good Sci-Fi or one with Cars maybe... I am probably going to give Conan a look when it comes out.

I never got hooked like other people though. I never played for 5 or 6 hours at a time. And I never played for 2 hours every single night. I only played in fairly short bursts and only every 2 or 3 days. Never really addicted. But even when playing very casually like I did, I still had that nagging feeling to play after I quit for a while.

Probably going to have withdrawls when I hit college, as I'd be surprised if they didn't block all means of game-related material on their network, meaning I wouldn't be able to play Final Fantasy XI from my residence. ;/

Maybe I'll actually be busy enough to not need it to kill time anyhow, I live on a farm here, so there's pretty much nothing I got to do during the summer holidays after hay-season is done, so I just blow all my hours playing the thing (281 days of playtime so far for my 5 some years of playing it, bit excessive I know...).

Nice one andy_mc, be strong and dont give in. Life is so much better in the real world anyway.
