BlitzCon 2007 (UK)

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/BlitzCon 2007 (UK)

The meal with Grey went down like a lead ballon at Christams, probably more to do with the distance to Dorset than any thing else.

But, how about a meet up, say more central such as Leicester or there abouts?

how about it, meal, few jars... talk shop?

dabz

You live in Leicester, then? ;P

I WANT IT IN *MY* GARDEN!!

Srsly, I'd probably just 'turn up' rather than plan it months in advance.

i've been wanting to rrange one myself, but i just dont have the time or cash.

I like the location of the previous blitzcon / codersworkshops, Doncaster is pretty much in the middle of the country and is rather easy to get too.

Make sure you have a live vid cam available this time for those who can't be there!

Didn't want to start a new thread coz it would be deleted but just wanted to say that Frank Butcher (Mike Reid) has died of a heart attack at the age of 67. :(

Back on topic. If there is a blitzcon this year I may come to it.

I will go if "Amon" goes.

RIP "Frank Butcher" - he was an old skool Blitzer who went on to do television.

yeah i'd like it in doncaster, i only live 15mins away.
We could hit the clubs afterwards.

Thought you lived in Barnsley? 's a bit more than 15 mins away. Don't think I could get to Doncaster from here in 15 mins and I'm a good 6 or 7 miles closer than you.

:p

I'm still up for a Blitzcon at Alton Towers. On-site hotels are from £43.50 per night.

heh..im not going - everything is too far away from me ;)
- not that it wouldnt be interesting..but i dont like the
smell of puki..or his face :p ;) + gfk would spend all day
going on about how hes made 2000 games in 5 weeks,
and is better than everyone else..and hes a bouncer or
summit..er.. no wait! did u say free beer? :p

That'll teach you to live closer to Norway than you do to England.

heh..sad but true :) :p

So that's how all of you Englishmen know each other :)

I live extremely close to Norway !
But I've still been to a Blitzcon :o)

I'd may to go if Puki does, I'd like to put an end to the cork-story ;P

I did one for DBPro (for the past 5 years) - its not cheap.

Unfortunately people tend to argue about where it should be - so an iron hand is needed.

Well, thats why I picked Leicester... its pretty central... People may have to fly in (Qube) and birmingham isnt far away. Its just off the M1 so getting there shouldnt be too bad by car.

I'm from Durham and can pick people up on the way down, though, it will be an over nighter! :)

Just some ideas.. keep em coming! ;)

If I ever get stationed in England I'm gonna come visit all you guys.

Hello.

Come to Wales. We have gravy and chips, half'n'half and day-glo onion bhajees. You could visit Cwmbran while here too!

Goodbye.

And it's actually sunny here at the moment, well at least it is in Cardiff.

@Gfk I did live in Barnsley until recently, now im resident in Mexborough and it only takes me 15mins to get Doncaster now.

Ah, just down the road from me! I was born in Mexborough and lived in various areas of Goldthorpe for most of my life, apart from two years in Doncaster 2003-2005.

Cool, we probably walked past each other and never even knew it :-)

That's probably very likely.

I would consider Leicester (or any other real city, Doncaster is nowheresville). :D

If one is going to be done, then everything will have to be organised very quickly (if its to be for this year), as companies will be planning to use conference rooms for their end of year stuff...

Meh, they've been organised at a month's notice before. What basically amounts to a pub crawl can be organised in a couple of hours.

You want more than a pub crawl - anyone can do that...

You want more than a pub crawl
Not really - maybe a curry as well. We've done the "bring a PC" thing several times before, and its largely boring except for the excessive amounts of alcohol.

Deary me - someone has set their sights way too low...

Well I'm up for a curry and a few drinks...

I spend enough time sitting in front of this monitor talking to you lot, about time we done it face to face, beer in one hand, chopsticks in the other... curry stains all down everyones brand new 'turning out' shirt! :D

So, following on from where it should be...

1) Leicester
2) Birmingham

I may have to pick Qube up from the Birmingham airport if its leicester.

As well as I know people that live there (Both places) and will track down a decent curry house... But we'll worry about the scran later! ;)

So, which one?

Dabz

Anywhere near an INTERNATIONAL airport is fine by me.

Anywhere near an INTERNATIONAL airport is fine by me.
There's an international airport in Doncaster, and you didn't go to that.

No flights out of Copenhagen go to Doncaster (at least I couldn't find one). Most go to London (Stansted or Heathrow).

Well, theres flights to Birmingham (BHX) Flame:-

http://booking.farecompare.com/flights?oneway=n&cabin=e&travelers=1&origin=CPH&depart_time=a&depart_date=08%2F15%2F2007&nearbyO=n&destination=BHX&return_time=a&return_date=08%2F22%2F2007&nearbyD=n

I could do a pitstop on the way down Gfk and pick you up, drop you (and others if there are any) off at where ever we decide then go get Qube and Flame at the port of air.

Simple! :)
