Hardwar

Dude I LOVED that game. That would be easy to make in blitz3d. Justluke you gotta keep me posted on that one. And I wanna be a tester too!

make it like the original Hardwar but more upto date

I got a free copy of Hardwar after it passed through QA - it went in the bin!

GfK:

Yeah? I've still got mine somewhere. Gathering dust at the bottom of a drawer, probably. It's one of three games that I kept.

EdzUp:

Nah. Straight forward Scifi "trading and shooting" games have been done to death. I'm interested in transplanting the gameplay into a different setting.

Chroma:

It's way, way, way too early to think about anyone testing it. At the moment I'm just playing around with the concept until Cobra's 3d module is released.

I wonder if Hardwar will work on XP...hmm.

Yes it does, but you need to set the installer to win95 compatibility so that it can install to a large partition.

You planning an Hardwar remake thingy then? Woohoo.

I disagree that Trading and shooting games have been done to death.. They have been done over and over badly!! A decent trading/combat game has rarely been done well... Elite - Hardwar - Frontier are about it. All the rest have been done badly or at least had bad flaws in them.

Can't wait to see were you go with it. Good luck on it :)

Hardwar was cool, infact mix that in with missions from "The Killing Cloud" and you're onto a winner I reckon!

I'm surprised that people think Hardwar was that good! I don't know if its because I've seen it from the rough-end or what. I wouldn't consider something like Hardwar a massively difficult game to make.

JustLuke/Jon_E_5 - either of you still have that massive design spec you did?

The thing I liked about hardwar was the mood of it, thought it was really atmospheric.

I really liked hardwar because of the upgrades and the economy. I also liked how there was distinctive areas and also you could have your own "house". Charging up in those light platforms was a cool idea too. Plus there's just something cool about being a bounty hunter/scavenger that appeals.

Yeah the distinctive areas were cool, where you had the rich or poor areas, it could look really good nowadays. DX7 would easily make this look fantastic.

Hardwar was DX6, wasn't it? Don't think DX7 would improve things much.

I'm quite fond of Hardwar - even though it is a bit creaky and patched together. You might be right about it not being too difficult to make (or remake), but that's probably what the guys at the Software Refinery thought too.

I chucked my copy a few years ago.

Ah, my bad!

Well if memory serves, didn't it start out as a DOS game and end up being completely rewritten for Windows 95? I know there was some technical issue or other which made it take about 3x longer than it should've done.

Hm... I have a hazy memory of you telling me that before, now that you mention it.

I do have some fond memories of Hardwar - wasn't all bad. Most of them involved larking about sticking 'ornaments' fashioned out of blu-tac on Phil Eckford's monitor, or getting paid while stuffing ourselves with free pizza and watching videos all night. And I *know* you all secretly wanted my PowerVR graphics card! :p

I did. I do. The card is mine. Give me the card. I know you still have it. Admit it, damnit!

But more than that, so, so much more, I want to track down the work experience "youth" who stole my custom-made scratching stick. Maybe the theft was before (or, er, after) your time in QA; the scratching stick - for an item of such perfect design deserves italics - was the bastard child of the barrel of an old pen and a specially twisted oversized paper-clip, and a shifty work experience kid stole it, and I hate him for it. The shifty-eyed, chavy, chinny bum-fluffed, swaggery-shouldered twit.

Oh my wonderful (if occasionally cutting) scratching utensil, how I miss you!

...

...I think I may have left by then. Or not arrived.

Either way, I don't think I want to know what you scratched with it. o.O

It had a wickedly sharp tip, so you wouldn't want to scratch anything more sensitive than your arm or back. It'd be like hooking fish. *Shudder*
