Free laptop with Orange/PC World???

What the... a FREE laptop?! Anyone signed up for this deal? I'm already an Orange broadband customer and feel a bit miffed.

OK, it's not exactly a powerhouse - and I'm guessing you have to give it back if you cancel your contract - but if it's free, better than nothing.

This deal sound too good to be true. There must be a catch somewhere...

Orange Broadband is free for Orange mobile users.

24 months @ £14.99 is £359.76, allowing for first three months at half price is £327.

So you're effectively paying £327 for a laptop that's worth £300, and getting broadband for free, that they can clearly afford to provide for free anyway.

If you don't have an ISP or a laptop, then it's a good way to get started. Personally I wouldn't move to Orange Broadband in a fit (they used to be Freeserve/Wanadoo didn't they?).

By the way - Currys are doing the same deal, although they word it as "£300 off a laptop". All a big trick to convince you to buy something from somewhere you normally wouldn't.

Hmm. I'm on Orange broadband and have an Orange mobile, albeit only on pay-as-you-go. I pay £18 a month for broadband (this includes use of the wireless modem/router they provide).

I can't help thinking I'm getting shafted somewhere, here...

Can I ask why? OK, they're not the cheapest but the service seems good enough. I've never had any downtime with them.

Three reasons. First, I used to be on Freeserve the last time I had dialup. They wrote to me at least once a month telling me to change my dialup number, even though the old one worked perfectly. Every time I backed down and changed it, the new number continually disconnected after a few minutes.

Second, because I used to work for the company they outsource their customer services to. God help you if you ever need them. I mean, they employed ME for Christ's sake!

Lastly, I've heard a lot of stories about Orange customer's e-mail suddenly stopping working, and customer services doing nothing to resolve the problem.

Yeah, I used to get that too, but FreeServe and dialup are both long-gone, now.

Do you know of an ISP who's customer support doesn't suck? :) Anyway, I've never really had to call them. Never had connection probs. Never had to reset the modem/router or fiddle with it's settings. It all just works, which is why I'm loathed to change ISPs. If it aint broke, don't fix it etc...

Haven't experienced that so can't really complain.

Yeah, how about a free iMac instead? Pfft... Joke of a contest, if you ask me... A lot of fine print involved, I'm quite sure...

Well, I can't seem to find any detailed terms and conditions - hmm.

Strangely, you do only seem to get a wired modem with the deal. What's the point of getting a laptop and then having to use a wired connection?! :/
