Crazy push for Alpha!

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Crazy push for Alpha!

It's that time again where I need to go nuts and have a crazy push to get a feature complete alpha version ready before a set date (I'm going to the Ukraine for 2 weeks of Aikido at the end of July).

There's gonna be no playing games, no TV, no boozing (I don't do this much anyway), no sitting in the garden, not much family time, late nights, tiny lunch breaks, minimal forum activity ;-) etc.

This is the bit that needs the most effort...here goes...

What's your definition of alpha? I call unfinished software that is feature complete "beta"...

Anyway, good luck, and have a jolly nice time kicking people's heads in in the Ukraine.

Ditto. That part of the world is warez central, so feel free to windmill a few natives. :)

... and remember to hold something in your fists before windmilling... a rock or lighter og anything.. put it to use.. :p

Just Luke: Well "feature complete alpha" works but hasn't been tidied up for Beta release and may not have all the graphics in place and may have some techie stuff missing (like Vista/Mac support and localisation). Basically Beta should be the finished game unless testers find bugs or want gameplay/cosmetic tweaks (and they will).

Well Aikido doesn't involve kicking heads in, but maybe some windmilling ;-) but only as a defensive move to capture and throw someone.

I dont see any signs of 'minimal forum activity' yet

or is this a final forum posting frenzy before you start the final push

;)

Good luck... I hope you dont hit any time sucking technical issues.

Yeah that's it ;-)

Actually I made my game run on the Mac today but go stuck on a technical issue that turned out to be a wrong ini setting, gah. Sorted now :-)

Enjoy the Ukraine Grey, good luck with your alfa - I've heard they can have gremlins. Well done on your Mac dev.

Thanks BP: If I could move the trip and finish the game, I'd rather do that but it's not possible. Yeah seeing it run on the Mac was great, the Macbook pro runs my game at 400FPS which is the same as my PC so that's cool! :-)

OK, it's 03:50am, time for today's crazy push to end. Just been re-writing all my Tdialogs to work with bitmap fonts (and listening to some new motivational trance)

Yeah, has there EVER been a single Beta that "passed" the testers on the first try? I DON'T THINK SO.

Ah well, that's part of the fun of programming, right? Right??

Good luck Grey,

Keep your head down now, you know it makes sense!

IPete2.

Thanks IPete2. I shouldn't have stayed up so late last night as I ddidn't get a proper lie in today ... yawn.
